I don't buy used vehicles with over 100k on them.

Also, "low mileage for the age" is a bullshit line. 250k miles gives the dame amount of wear no matter how long it took.

Also, "highway miles" is a bullshit term.

robertycoby, thanks for that detailed response. This is also my first "high-dollar" vehicle purchase, after 20 years of driving, I might add. I've also never worked with a dealership, but your statement struck me as odd:
Is it typical to NOT acquire the service reports until after the deal is done? I'd think I'd want as much information going into the purchase as possible. Was it a case of taking their word and not expecting to be taken for a ride?

Doing a search on local Toyota dealers and I'm finding a few that don't have very good reviews online, and others that do. Fortunately, those same "good review" websites also have reasonably priced DCSB and LB's.

I've gone to the Toyota website and I found where I can search for open recalls, but is there a source to find the ones that have actually been completed on a vehicle?

I think I shall pay one of them a visit and start the test drive process while I determine the best avenue to pursue

They had the service records there for me to look at while checking out the truck, but I did not have a copy of them in the paperwork that came home with me after I made the purchase. I should have made sure that was included but it was not, and I've had a hell of a time getting them to send them. I just want them for my records. This plus a couple other things has proven they do not care about me since they've already gotten their money from me. Live and learn. I still love my truck.

I'm not aware of any websites where you can check this but if there is one I'm sure someone on here knows about it. However, when they perform recalls, they typically put a little sticker on the inside of the drivers front door jamb with a code number on it that correlates with the recall service performed. There were of few of these stickers on mine when I bought it I was able to look up. That said, since I've owned it, I've taken it in for the leaf spring recall, and they did not leave a new sticker for that one...

I think for a prospective Tacoma owner the best thing to do is read this forum as much as you can and really get a sense for what things are frequently an issue. Also visit CarComplaints.com and they break it down by year. Then you know what to really keep your eyes open for when looking at a particular vehicle.

I disagree with this statement if you plan to keep it till the wheels fall off and with the 2nd generation frame rot, I'm glad I bought it new to know how well I've cared for the frame.

If you get on the Toyota Owners website and enter the vehicles VIN it will tell you what is needed, if any.
