    Hey guys,
I have been trying to figure out the problem for some time now.

Throttle body makes a humming sound when it has power. I try to crank it over and she wont start. I disconnect the plug, the valve shuts completely and the humming goes away.

Here is a short video of it:
    th_1DEE1A67-D8DB-465B-AE1B-7C9833D387C1__eae6858ee8dc8eaa77c0b92344c125b8b3daeb50.jpg

I've had this happen before and last time I swapped the ECU and the throttle body and she cranked over no problem. I did the same thing this time but with no success. Maybe you guys can led me a hand. No codes so I'm at a loss. Lots of threads across multiple forums but the thread ends after the parts are swapped. I must have a different issue. Thanks for your time.

Yes, we 03-04s still have them :)

the ECM reads the pedal position sensor (pps, opposite side of TB where cable connects) which in turn controls the motor under the TB, which the TPS then reads and reports to the ECM

I had the same noise earlier this year and had a spare TPS from a 2nd TB that I swapped in. the noise is gone. however you cannot purchase this piece separate (without buying China bulk quantity)

some 01-02 4Runners used the same TB setup ours has so if you can find another donor to try that would be the cheapest route for now.

Any one else having this problem? I'm on my 4th throttle body (junk yard). I can't be the only one, anyone figure out a fix? I'm hesitant to drop $2200 on a brand new one if its not going to fix this issue. Thoughts?

If it has a throttle cable (as OP stated) its not drive by wire. My 04 isn't drive by wire.

The 5VZ ETCS has a throttle control motor, TPS and a cable, no IAC.

Interesting. Thought the drive by wire didn't have a cable.

Why the hell doesn't Toyota offer that part separately. That really sucks!

On 1st gens this system has a history of issues, beyond the availability BS and China/Europe sourcing.
There was a TTORA thread a while back.

    Here she be.

Your right. For some reason Toyota didn't do DBW completely.

Technically speaking, It is not "drive by wire" but as described, Electronic Throttle Control "System" which uses the two separate sensors, one located where the throttle cable links in and the TPS located on the rear. The front motor sensor tells the ECU where the butterfly should be and the TPS relays the position to the ECU so it can adjust the motor beneath the TB. This was Toyota's introduction into this foray. 01-02 4Runner and 03-04 Tacoma had this in the 3.4 V6, so the TB from either is a swap. I have a 2nd TB that I bought from a parted out 4Runner but have not swapped it yet as I was trying other things first hoping my TB was not bad.

also, part # 89452-35030 is a 4-pin TPS, that's the actual part number from the TPS I have sitting in front of me. Maybe they used that # for multiple but that would be heinous on Toyota's part. I will upload a pic later as my phone is charging.
