It is odd and I know it's not right... I drive very easy also. I just added 25 litres of fuel and did the math and the computer is bang on. If the truck is actually this bad for the driving I do, this will be a short lived purchase. If cars were 40% lower in fuel economy off the lot their would be constant outrage by owners.

i feel the same way i have the 2017 dlcb or trd averaging 15.5l/100km driving very conservatively and was stunned by the poor fuel economy. My last car was a subaru sti and i averaged 11l/100km gunning it everywhere.

A lot of it depends on how you drive and what the roads are like. These trucks can get great or terrible mileage, depending.

Usually when I'm running errands around town (so city driving), I get around 20-22mpg+, but I'm light on the gas.

I have not even seen 15.5 on my computer yet. My L/100 is like 18-22. My Infinity G35 wasn't this bad driving it hard... I often drive my vehicles like show cars... Nice and easy all around... But this fuel economy isn't going to work for me. I will be driving around a bit more today but this is disappointing and unaffordable with gas at $1.35 a litre right now.

Maybe it is something with the transmission, have you had the TSB done?

I don't believe so. This truck was just built a month ago so I would assume Toyota is now doing this from factory? I am going to bump my tires up form 32PSI to 39PSI and that may make some difference. Otherwise Toyota may have to examine this... Hard to diagnose though.

The 2017 that I recently test drove was constantly up and down shifting that it was maddening so I am not sure if they have made any changes from the Factory, might be worth checking into the next time its in for service.

Don't assume build time means anything. The 2005-2015 (2nd Gen) Tacomas were prone to Needle Bearing failures.... so are the 2016's as I understand. That's a lot of years to "fix the problem".

39PSI seems awfully high for factory tires.

This is exactly where I'm at (even having my last car as an impreza getting around 10l/100km) and I figure that a lot of it comes from living in a very hilly area, so lots of short hilly city driving for running errands and such. Longer drives with more highway and more flatness end up around 12.8l/100km average.

    The engine isn't breaking in.
You won't get better mpg because the engine breaks in.
    That doesn't happen.
    Stop it

The ECU is learning your driving habits and learning how to shift to best suit your needs. That will get you better mpg as times goes on

You cannot extrapolate 2 tanks of gas into your trucks future mpg figures. Extrapolating on flawed data is bad but the media and other groups do it all the time

This isn't true. More than 90% of all media are right 113% of the time about 63% of the things they report. Everyone knows this. This proves that it is common knowledge.

This graph and it's data prove my point.
