The Peugeot of France's Sebastien Loeb and co-driver Monaco’s Daniel Elena, lies overturned next to a helicopter, after an accident during the eighth stage of the 2016 Dakar Rally, in Cafayate, Argentina, Monday, Jan. 11, 2016.

    4f17fc3102a646028d0f6a7067004fea.jpg

EDIT...Sébastien Loeb, after rolling his car yesterday, has not particularly savoured the day's special. Starting behind the wheel of a Peugeot DKR repaired by his mechanics, the former general standings leader has had a fair few setbacks again today. Stuck in the sand on several occasions, the nine times WRC winner has reached the finishing line in 18th position, 1 hour and 13 minutes behind Sainz!!!

Wow. Crazy! Robby had some issues as well. I have a feeling this will be his last Dakar.

Yes, he is not a happy camper. While he is somewhat famous in Dakar for exploring the envelope of rules interpretation, this time Peugeot has taken it to a whole new level.....(and they have a lot more money and influence)

How big/powerful is the Puegot diesel? Robby is a chevy sponsored guy, so anything he runs is from them. I believe the Silverado Duramax would be to big and heavy for what he would want. The new diesel for the Colorado I think is to small for the power he needs. Does chevy use any better suited diesels in the rest of the world?

To bad he wasn't a dodge guy and use the new Ram 1500 Diesel, or even ford with tje twin turbo 3.5 ltr. (A few years ago as part of fords testing they mounted a stock twin turbo 3.5 in a trophy truck and did pretty well with it in baja).
He has no power up in those high mtns. and needs some help.

I just hope Robby doesn't say enough and walk away. I feel he would do very well if he joined a big major team again, but that's not his style.

Nobody knows much about the mechanicals on the pugs. RG mentioned he felt there is no way they are legal (restricted HP) but who knows.

What aee the rules? In that interview were Robby called out their engines, he said "there is no way that is a PRODUCTION engine".

Ar e the engines supposed to be stock motors, or based off a stock motor and then you can modify them?

I'm not sure exactly what the ASO regs are, I know they are crazy restrictive compared to SCORE or any other sanctioned event.

    Great videos.....thanks.

I feel some of the most under-rated competitors are those that run the solo or "malle moto" class with no crew or support, and who spend most of their nights rebuilding the equipment instead of resting. They make the factory teams look like a bunch of pampered whiners. Just kidding!

    Video is from last year.

Just watched the "dunes" stage (24 hours delayed on NBCSN). The endurance and stamina of these guys still amazes me. Robby is not happy with the organizers, and while I believe he has a point, still it reminds me of his 2005 Indy.

    Quote from then:-

Robby Gordon says Patrick has an unfair advantage (AP)

Robby Gordon accused Danica Patrick of having an unfair advantage in the Indianapolis 500 and said Saturday he will not compete in the race again unless the field is equalized. Gordon, a former open-wheel driver now in NASCAR, contends that Patrick is at an advantage over the rest of the competitors because she only weighs 100 pounds. Because all the cars weigh the same, Patrick’s is lighter on the race track. “The lighter the car, the faster it goes,” Gordon said. “Do the math. Put her in the car at her weight, then put me or Tony Stewart in the car at 200 pounds and our car is at least 100 pounds heavier. “I won’t race against her until the IRL does something to take that advantage away.”

Ya he's pissy when he loses. The truth is if his race program was squared away, he would probably be in the top three. He knows that, and it has to sting a bit!

Anyone want to start a Dakar 2017 thread? Toyota HiLux wins stage 1. Robby Gordon not participating!
