I have the Icon AAL to get the 1-1/2" lift, but raised the front to the full 3" and now the ass end sits lower than the front. What's the best way to get more lift in the rear, a 1" block kit with longer u-bolts? 1" would give me just a slight rake, which is where I would like it. This is what toytec says I need or I would need to have my leafs reshaped. The blocks would be much easier and cheaper. They say the drive line shake and need of shimming is a bout a 50/50 gamble. Just curious what others have done? I've looked and looked and read what many have done or see many pictures with the blocks. I have read where some have put overloads back in with an AAL to act as a spacer, but I don't see how that would really work. Plus, at this point, it would be still be cheaper to do the block since I would still need longer u-bolts and would need to take it all back apart.

Blocks cause axle wrap. The icon U-bolts should be long enough to run the overload springs, I ran my icon progressive AAL with the stock U-bolts, and the icons were longer.

Really what you should do is replace the rear springs with something like OME or lower the front end. 3" is pretty tall for the front CVs anyway.

throw the overloads back in and drop the nose one notch.

No blocks, just like no capes.

Had a block on mine for the first 100k miles, stock suspension, no issues. It's cheap and easy. Most of the people who tell you not to use blocks have never actually used them.

Yeah, this forum is good for that.
Are you for real? Why the hell would I go back to the shitty OME leafs and lower the front? I'm not just driving it on the road and to the mall.
The u-bolts I have are NOT long enough to add the overload back in, maybe the dealer re-used the stock ones? The installed the stage 6 kit and aligned it for free and I have all the old parts and paperwork, but no extra u-bolts.
I also love the way it rides NOW, maybe I'll just drive around with a saggy ass

OME (Old Man Emu) is not the same as OEM (Original Equipment Manufacture).

    Correct.

I ran blocks for a while! I had bad axle wrap with Oem suspension and when I was using blocks I had NONE at all.

For the time being I'd go with a 1" block and whenever you feel like spending the money getting a custom leaf pack

I was also running longer u bolts from rough country, you can custom order sizes from them.

Really? How big of a block did you run for your first 100k? You didn't have any axle-wrap issues or anything

Not being an ass. Have 5k on mine and trying to decide if I want to replace my brand new OEM pack or just throw a block under it for now when I lift the front.

Im with the rest in that you'll be happier springing for a new leaf pack over a block.

You can go with the Toytec Boss leafs for about 2" with a softer ride if you don't run much weight in the bed or the Dakars for 3" stock weight. I think the Dakars come with an additional leaf you can add in if you have added weight.

If it were me- I'd run a 1" block in a heartbeat with your set-up. Some domestic manufactures have 2" from the factory, the concern with the Toyota is the springs are a little soft and may wrap. It is only a 1" block, but you also already have a AAL then your pack is running firmer then stock, worst case scenario it doesn't meet your expectations and your out a couple of bucks. Lets us know how it goes.

Tacoma springs are nothing more than gum wrappers pressed into the shape of a spring. While Ford and Dodge may install blocks from the factory, I surely would never install more than and inch if even that. The springs are soft enough to allow deflection, they historically lose their arch, break, and bottom out. All of these characteristics make blocks a bad idea, not to mention that the wrap will be hard on U joints.

The same shit everyone else has.
I have a 3 leaf add a leaf on my truck along with a 1/2" block to bring back the factory rake. If you search my name, youll find the thread
