Does a leveling kit blow the warranty

 

Depends on the warranty claim, but the drive line vibrations TSB that just came out specifically excludes people that modified their trucks suspension or lifted it.

If you are super worried, email your dealership and ask them.

Personally with the issues this truck has, I wouldn't touch the damn thing for the first 2-3 years. At least use up your manufacturer warranty.

 

I recently bought a Toyota certified used 2016 Tacoma. It had low mileage and the dealer told me it was a dealer truck that was used as a loaner. It stalled on me yesterday and the dealership service guy said the stall was due to some after market wiring for remote start (which it doesn't currently have). Because it was after market, they said it wasn't covered and it'd be $480 to fix. Has this typ of thing ever happened to anyone with a used Tacoma. I feel like the dealer should cover it because it was Toyota certified!

 

If it can be proven to cause a suspension related problem it will void any warranty claims towards suspension only.

 

Here is the test you have to take to see if they should be covering it:

Did you buy it from them with "aftermarket" wiring in place? If yes, they should be covering it. They sold it to you in that condition. When they did that they accepted the liability for warranting it. If this is the case for you, you need to be pushing back(respectfully) very firmly that they foot the bill for the issue.

Did you add the aftermarket part (in this case wiring) that caused the issue? If yes, they are not obligated to cover it. Just like you can't buy an iPhone, open it up and solder on a new headphone jack then expect Apple to cover it under warranty when it breaks. If they sold you a phone with an aftermarket headphone jack and "certified apple refurbished" then they are certifying that they are standing behind it.

Raise hell, politely, but continue to escalate until you are satisfied. They sold you a broken product under a warranty that they are now refusing to stand behind.

 

Uhhm.....did you install a remote starter and then remove it AFTER the truck stalled in hopes of having the dealer warranty your repair?

Ha nope, I bought the truck (used) from a dealership in Arizona. I live in Texas so I'm getting it serviced in Texas. I'm assuming the remote start was installed and removed before I purchased it. The b.s. part is that they told me the truck was a dealer loaner vehicle so it was always with the dealer. I'm thinking that THAT was a flat out lie. Sorry about not being clear on the first statement.

 

Yeah, the main problem is I bought it in Arizona from a dealer out there and now I live in Texas, where it is currently getting serviced. The Texas dealer found the after market wiring so I'm definitely going to have to raise hell (politely) to the dealer in Arizona.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I just wasn't sure if anyone had gone through this type of situation. It's good to know it's not hopeless.

 

How is it known that an aftermarket remote start system was once installed on the vehicle?

 

I had it towed to the dealership in Texas because it stalled. When they opened up the console they found the supposed after market wiring. I got pics from the Texas dealer, which I'm sending to the Arizona dealer as proof.
