So I posted this in the 2gen forum but got zero responds so let me try here.

    So I'm having a weird issue with my rpms when shifting from 4th to 5th gear. I have a 06 taco with 86000 miles, it's a 4l v6 with a 5 speed auto transmission.

So if you see the video it goes into 5th gear around 41-42 mph. So when it's doing the gear change my rpms goes from 1800, to 1500rpms , then drops one more time to 1300 rpms . I'm not letting my foot off the gas pedal. If you you look at the mph gauge, when it's doing the shift from 4th to 5th I'm gassing the whole time. And if you listen closely you'll hear it when the rpms drop twice . I've done a transmission flush about 3 months ago hoping that's what it needed but no luck , anybody have a idea of what could it be . I don't hear no grinding or cluncky noise . Just the rpm do that weird thing.

If that is a steady acceleration, I'm betting you are seeing the torque converter lock up. Its supposed to do that.

If that's not it, then I'm not understanding your issue.

Lets see if @gearcruncher has any input?

Can you explain to me how that works?

When the Transmission is not in "lock up", there is still slipping going on inside the transmission torque converter. When the torque converter locks up, there is 100% of engine RPM's being transferred to the output shaft on the transmission. There is no slippage. You will see another small drop in RPM's when the TC goes into lockup.
