    Materials
While most of the fuselage is made of aluminium alloys, composite materials comprise more than 20% of the A380's airframe. Carbon-fiber reinforced plastic, glass-fiber reinforced plastic and quartz-fiber reinforced plastic are used extensively in wings, fuselage sections (such as the undercarriage and rear end of fuselage), tail surfaces, and doors. The A380 is the first commercial airliner to have a central wing box made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic. It is also the first to have a smoothly contoured wing cross section. The wings of other commercial airliners are partitioned span-wise into sections. This flowing continuous cross section reduces aerodynamic drag. Thermoplastics are used in the leading edges of the slats. The hybrid fiber metal laminate material GLARE (glass laminate aluminium reinforced epoxy) is used in the upper fuselage and on the stabilizers' leading edges. This aluminium-glass-fiber laminate is lighter and has better corrosion and impact resistance than conventional aluminium alloys used in aviation. Unlike earlier composite materials, GLARE can be repaired using conventional aluminium repair techniques. The application of GLARE on the A380 has a long history, which shows the complex nature of innovations in the aircraft industry.

Newer weldable aluminium alloys are used in the A380's airframe. This enables the widespread use of laser beam welding manufacturing techniques, eliminating rows of rivets and resulting in a lighter, stronger structure.High-strength aluminium (type 7449)reinforced with carbon fiber was used in the wing brackets of the first 120 A380s to reduce weight, but cracks have been discovered and new sets of the more critical brackets will be made of standard aluminium 7010, increasing weight by 90 kg (198 lb). Repair costs for earlier aircraft are expected to be around €500 million (US$629 million).

It takes 3,600 L (950 US gal) of paint to cover the 3,100 m2 (33,000 sq ft) exterior of an A380. The paint is five layers thick and weighs about 650 kg (1,433 lb).

The thing is a beast of MEGA proportions.....

If they can make helicopters fly they can make anything with a wing fly.

Some flags and center console divider... lots of things on the wanted list.
The plane that still makes no sense to me... the flying guppy of Boeing. And Airbus' fuselage hauler. Those things make zero sense whatsoever.

The flying monstrosity aka Dreamlifter. I have a buddy that works for the company Boeing contracts to fly them and load/unload all the parts it delivers here to Everett. I watch this thing take off regularly and it's still amazing to see it actually get off the ground every time. The black smoke always belching out of the engines makes it look like they are doing work though.

So, not sure if stupid ATC or stupid pilot.... Little Cessna comes in to BWI on one of the longer runways instead of the GA runway, but they had him taxi over to the GA parking between two of our 737's. That poor rudder was working overtime to keep the plane straight jn the jetwash, and he seemed to have a good amount of distance between the jet in front of him....

I'd like to call into question whether the implied action actually qualifies as a violation. :D

    1) The pilot isn't driving, but flying.
    2) There is no street involved.
    3) It's only excessive speeding if he's violating any FAA regulations in this instance which does not appear to be the case.

If I get banned I'll know why :plane::crapstorm::D

Double ahem back atcha. I hate to bring physics into this, but the only way that aircraft could be considered speeding is if it broke the sound barrier, and that probably couldn't occur before he cratered.

    You leave our Justin alone.

    Big meanie.

Not true, there are airspeed limits within certain portions of the national airspace system.

Big brother watches. No need for cruisers to pull you over.

It usually sounds something like this, "Advise when ready to copy a phone number."
