60k Service interval

Ok my truck has 62k on it and the only thing that I have ever done was change the oil, have the rear brakes adjusted, change the air filter, and put new tires on it. I'm getting a really nice tax return back and was planning on having the transmission fluid changed and maybe the front and rear diff oil, and the spark plugs. Would you agree with having this stuff done. I do alot of towing. I'm going to have this truck for atleast 10-15 years. Suggestions???

 

I'm in the same boat, except I changed the rear diff fluid already.

 

I would think hard about having your brake fluid and cooling system changed as well.

 

Yeah I think I'm going to get the trans. fluid changed but not really to sure about the spark plugs and just wondering if there is something that I'm missing...

If you have the V6 your plugs should have been changed AGES ago.

Look in your owners manual or toyota.com for the service information pertaining to your truck. Start around the 30K mileage interval and work your way up to see what has been missed.

There is a bunch of stuff that should have/needs to be done with your truck. Reference the Toyota service intervals to ensure you don't miss anything.

 

I know what my manual says but how much and what really needs to be done. I mean there is alot of stuff in there that I think they include to just make more money.

 

You could do it all yourself for around $100 or a little more. If $100 is going to break the bank you should have bought a Yaris...

 

Well I know how to change oil, air filter, but thats about it. I'm a perfectionist and if i mess something up it usually ends up costing me more than if i just paid someone to do it. therefore I just plan on taking it to the dealership and lett them do it but dont want to pay them to do a bunch of stuff that really doesn't need to be done.

 

i have an 08 DC manual 4x4. currently at 73k
i work construction on the road. (alot of highway mileage).
here's what i do.
oil n oil filter change every 3k and oil additive (Restore 6cylinder)
air filter every 5k, unless have cold air then clean it usually every 7k
tire rotation every 5k
transmission

$30 75W-90 Synthetic Gear Lube - 1 Quart (Pack of 2)

75W-90 gotz to be every 10k!!!! especially if ur hauling tonz of shit!
same with the rear diff (if have LSD:make sure you add Diff additive).
transfer case and frt diff ur good to go about 30k depending on weather conditions and ur off road adventures.
Lucas fuel injection cleaner every 40k
change out coolant red, brake fluid, power steering fluid annually.

 

Spark plugs??

 

I did my spark plugs on my 2006 DC @ 30k. I had my friend who owns a shop do them even though there is a very easy DIY here from Chris4x4. I'm not that mechanically inclined or own the right tools or tall enough to reach in there. Also he did the front,rear, transfer case oils at that time as well.

could you tell an improvement in performance/mpg when you changed your plugs?

 

my mechanic buddies tell me 70k on spark plugs should be good. i'm at 73k still running strong with spark plugs. that was next on my list to do for maintenance(spark plugs), but my truck has been in an accident. go with some irridium sparks. i know maintenance is expensive but worth it in the long run if tryna go 15 years!

if you havent done it already get ur emergency rear brakes tighten a few clicks and the rear drum air compressed out.

i do all my own maintenace, except coolant flushes, brake, power steering fluid changes.

 

make good friends with mechanics to use their shop. u could learn alot! bribe dem with beer. Ko' Bier!

 

Ok so I'm thinking that is going to be trans fluid, rear diff fluid, and spark plugs. I dont use 4x4 that much so the transfer case and front diff fluid will just have to wait till another time.

 

one more thing. sorry to be annoying. by urself a grease gun. and plug it into the grease fittings in the CV joints connected to the frt and rear shafts. pump until you see fresh grease. do this with every oil change.
i use

$30 mobil 1 75W-90 synthetic gear lube - 1 quart (pack of 2)

mobil 1 75W-90 fluid for transmission, frt rear diff and tranfer. mobil 1 oil for engine. the transmission fluid change will be the most difficult but can be done with out paying shops. if ur rich buy some of dat royal purple. it takes about 8 quarts to take care of the transmission , transfer case and the frt and rear diffs.

 

Ok thanks for your help... I'm going to try and do some of these things myself but the transmission thing Ill probably pay them to do that considering its a "sealed" transmission. So i'll do the rear fluid, spark plugs, and grease fittings. Its there anything else??

 

AC cabin air filter depends on how much u use ur AC. located behind the glove box.

 

Honestly I did not, I felt the truck ran the same along with same mpg. I agree with the cabin filter change behind the glove box!
