I don't tow shit in my truck, but I still got a hitch on mine. Keeps assholes from riding my ass while I'm driving.

Thanks! I'll look into it tomorrow if not Friday. Hopefully I can pry it back into place. From what you guys are saying I should be able to.

It's my first truck and I switched over from a Lexus sedan. So I somewhat forgot the length of the truck vs a sedan plus I was a little pissed.

Someone bumped into the back of me while off road around a tight corner - literally same thing happened to me, same spot on the black plastic too lol. Will try this when I get home from work! Thanks for the write up! :typing::wave:

Was with my buddy as he backed into a corner parking spot that was just slightly overgrown with some limbs from an oleander bush. We could see the brush getting close to the tailgate in the camera and the sensor was beeping as if he was going to hit something (normal) but you figure the little tree limbs are not going to be an issue. Well what he didn't see in the back up camera was one of those parking lot steel/concrete posts off to the side, just far enough to where you couldn't clearly see it in the camera yet it was close enough to tag the passenger side rear corner of his bed. Fucked it up pretty nicely. It was also the GM white diamond tri-coat which is one of the toughest paint jobs to match--anything with that multi-layer metallic flake or pearl look to it is tough to match. By looking at the post you could see where a bunch of other folks must have tagged it too, it was marred with different colors.

The circled pieces are all metal, the top piece is stamped metal that is the length of the whole bumper, that's what throwing your bumber caps out of whack. The bumper caps attach to it and if it's distorted at all it'll throw off how the bumper caps align. The bottom piece is the tow hitch that attaches to the frame.

I tried bending the metal when I had someone ding me and it was still off, so my OCD kicked in and just bought a new metal piece, it was only $130.00 through Toyota parts.

That's only if you report it to insurance, should be a easy inexpensive fix.

A back step for when I get older, Carhartt seatcovers, 4Runner wheels, Topper, and "tats all folks"! --for now!!
Really -- I have never seen a tailgator (AKA -idiot, a-hole, ba*terd, -I could go on and on) deterred by a trailer hitch --most people (if you want to call THEM "people") could care less what is in or on your truck! I have even had idiots drive up and UNDER a long load (with a legal red flag of course) when such load has been tied to the truck!?

I had a F-150 with sensors but no camera, I basically never had to worry about running directly into things and only really had to check my side mirrors. After getting a Tacoma with just the camera and no sensors, I have to keep reminding myself to check EVERYTHING.

I did the same thing as the OP. I think my truck had 300 miles on it. Started looking at the back up camera to avoid this type of issue and plate bumper.

The plate bumper is more for the a-holes that want to squeeze into a parking spot or don't know how to parallel park and want to tag the cars in front or behind them .... plate bumper FTW.
