Oh yeah, for sure. Junk yard axle and '84 leaf springs and a few hundred bucks in steering/misc stuff, and some welding, and you got an sas... I was thinking more like a 4 link, aftermarket axles, etc for the "real" performance gains.

To me, though, unless you are an experienced fabricator/machinist, it's going to be really difficult to get real performance on a tight budget. But "performance" is pretty subjective anyway. I've been pretty happy with my $300 5100's... :)

Aren't you supposed to do dumb things in high school?

You can get caught in high school, but after you turn 18 getting in trouble is a little different.

I used to do such dumb shit to my rigs when i was younger just to get bigger tires and accomplish that look you're aiming for whatever it may be. Im including everyone here OP not just aiming at you. But i can tell you as i got older and if i still had that vehicle(which i always did, never got rid of anything really unless its sale was to finance something for another rig) i was always so perplexed as to why i did what i did as cheap as i could and accomplish nothing more than a rig that was just kinda, well, cheap and i always had to ask myself why the fuck did i do that? It was always money though really, just as it is most ti.es people do what they do, including you OP in this situation! I usually ended up paying so much more in the long run to fix what i had done or even worse, having to seemingly fix and maintain things and parts that either wore out prematurely or keep replacing components that were so damn cheap they always broke er whatever and even though they might have been "cheap" they weren't cheap dollar wise just quality wise!

Something to chew on and maybe think about when time has passed and youre older and your priorities have changed and trust me they will!! So will your finances...hopefully! Sooner than you might think too, seriously! I remember what it was like in high school and how important some things seemed. Especially image and your possessions that formed your image at the time and how badly i/we wanted some things from time to time but all that shit will pass and mean absolutely nothing soon! Like others said do what you like, its your truck and you certainly wouldn't be the only fella to do what you're proposing but id venture to say that if you did a giant body lift you will ask yourself in a few years (cause you'll prolly still have the ole girl wth those lower miles....dont wreck the damn thing!!) why in the hell did i do that, lol. Especially if you end up replacing or having to fix your body mounts from the truck setting on those super tall bushings and getting all fubar'd because of the added leverage created by the tall lift bushings the cab and bed now set on. However atleast a body lift is fairly easy to reverse and nothing would be permanent if you wanted to take that thing off there considering no damage had occurred like i just mentioned, everything fixable though i suppose....

Also (not aimed at you OP) as far as DB lifts go they get a pretty bad wrap for having shitty clearance. Which is true to an extent. Im not defending them here at all boys, now that im older id certainly go SAS and wait and pay the extra and just be patient. But they do increase ground clearance pretty well...just not there at the front end, lol. But really about the only thing that gets ya on that front end clearance is when youre in ruts, sometimes rocks in the right situation and typically if youre gunna get stuck cause of ruts you'd be stuck reguardless of DB or 2.5" coil lift, not always but im sure you guys get what i mean. Sometimes inches are quite precious though...right, right, lol....okay enough of that. But otherwise typically you would use your tires and drive over the obstacle where you would then get past that bracket clearance and reap the benefits of having all the clearance under your mid section, tire to tire basically. Another example, a guy with a small coil lift going over a water bar, which is a fairly common obstacle around my nect of the woods could be high centered while the guy with his supposed low ground clearance truck would zip right over that same obstacle with out issue. This would also include going through a ditch or heck all kinds of things where front end clearance means nothing and approach/departure angles are the name of the game. Of course the DB lift guy would need a bigger lift than the coil guy but thats why some or alot, i dunno, of guys get a DB over a coil lift which is completely restricted to 3" max! The 6" DB guy will have a whole 3" of added space between axles that the 3" coil guy wont have, plus the DB guy could even potentially have more than that due to the ability to run larger tires AND this even makes the DB guy gain a lil bit of extra clearance at the front axle/bracket from the larger tires somewhat "catching up" to the coil lift guys at the affected area that gives the DB lift ablack eye. Also depending on the setup the coil guy with his maxed out suspension typically has made it to where his travel is pretty dang limited(in one direction atleast) and the DB guy still has stock like travel with his suspension. So idk, again im not a DB fan boy but i just see them being bashed alot when really they can be useful in certain situations or terrain where as the later can have quite restricted functionality. I just like to really look at things from both sides and really look at the whats and whys ya know?? I will say however that some of those DB kits are absolutely fucking junk!!! Like the brands that use all these crazy spacers and shit! No way, but like everything you get what you pay for so gotta keep that in mind. I'll stop here im sure this post will be enormous and most of it has nothing to do with the thread topic lol!
Peace out my taco lovin hommies!! And my fellow 3rd gen runner guys too!!
