Man, I came in the store a couple weeks ago. It was late on the Sunday night before Christmas. Looked like y'all were shutting down for the night.

working in a hotel during a time of severe winter weather, we will get employees to stay the night in the hotel. It may sound like fun, but it is not, and sucks ass. If you are one of the employees who are staying in the hotel, you will more than likely get the hell worked out of you because there will be a few people that will call out, even though the same offer to stay over was extended to them, and the guests are stuck inside. So you can imagine the bars and food outlets get hammered. Luckily I am off tomorrow, as I am salary and there is no benefit of OT. So Grateful I am off for this shit show.

I say this every single day when we get people we are supposedly allergic to something, or gluten free, vegetarian, or God forbid a damn VEGAN. I'm understandable when its a legit medical issue or have legit allergies. but the people who damn lie about being allergic to certain things because they don't like it are full of shit. i.e. the people who say they are allergic to onions or garlic, and then when they are informed a dish can not be made without the onions or garlic, they say its ok and take the dish anyways. I hope hell has a special place for them.

So I stand corrected on the eggs thing. We had to go to the store last night because we were out of something necessary for the coconut cake my wife was making for a friend's birthday on Monday(*). The place was nearly devoid of eggs. Seriously, why?

(*) a *proper* coconut cake needs to be made 3-4 days in advance

It literally makes no sense. When I lived in Colorado and it snowed people just went to the grocery store if they needed something. They didn't run out and only grab 3 things, they just went grocery shopping. I don't understand it

I didn't know that about a coconut cake

That's what normal people buy when it snows. Stuff to keep you warm soups, whiskey and all that. Not eggs bread and milk

Hey, you're in Locust Grove. I'm right below you in Jackson.

I read two plausable explanations about it last night because I wanted to know why, too:

    1. milk, bread, and eggs are all perishable items. People flock to these to kind of subconsciously assure themselves that they won't be trapped in their home for an extended period of time. Why they go for milk, eggs, and bred specifically, I dunno.

    2. A reporter went on the air during a bad storm in New England in the 70's and said that, of all the shortages, milk and bread were the most sold-out items in all the stores. Going forward, that's what everyone began flocking to when they heard the word 'snow.'

From a survival standpoint, milk, eggs, and bread are all terrible picks...go with the important things that will last years....like whiskey.

20 years ago, snow days in Atlanta were very different than they are now.

When it snowed, everything shut down - people stayed home. The egg/milk/bread wasn't even as bad as today.

The best part about people staying home was the ability to go wheeling! No traffic, no cars stuck blocking the roads.

We used to go to Rich Mountain for a great snow run. For those that may not know, it is (OK, was) an unmaintained county road between a wilderness area and I think private property. Unfortunately, the quarry now has control of the beginning of the road and I believe the county closed it. :(

Why is no one concerned with buying toilet paper? That would be a top priority on my snow storm shopping list. TP before eggs!

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that we actually receive more than a dusting of snow here in E. Cobb. If we don't get a whole lot, I believe my wife and I are going to head north to find some to play in. :)
