I got the base 4x4 standard cab. It took awhile to find because I wanted the auto transmission and buckets but I eventually found it. Wasn't even into it for $25K, 2 year pay off.

    Pros
Comfort - It's like they took my measurements and designed it for me personally
Radio - Has bluetooth so I can answer the phone hands free and a flash drive plug, I'm good.
Turning radius with the SWB is nuts
20MPG since the day I bought it
I like the fold flat passenger seat
I can reach the rear slider
Console fits a vertical holster with a G19
There are enough drink holders in the cab for me, a passenger and 5 more people in the bed

    Meh
Manual locks, roll up windows. No cruise, power seats, camera - Don't care
Missed having volume on the wheel at first but am over it
Needed more storage, got a shell.
No Intermittent wipers - 84652-02710 fixed that

    Cons
The spare removal system completely blows

    I love my truck

So I've read through a lot of the comments here, and 2 complaints stick out to me. Heated mirrors and the temperature/compass in the rear view? Why? If it's cold outside,I know that while walking to my truck, same when it's hot. As for the mirrors,im pretty sure if they're iced over your windshield is as well. Just thinking out loud. BTW I hate the rubber cupholders.

Mine has rubber floors, or well i guess its vinyl floors. That was something i insisted on having, which where i live there is alot of coal miners and they all like the vinyl floors on work trucks, so they are kinda common here.

Keep all the troubleshooting receipts, and if they say that, fall back on them as an issue you have had several times, that was neglectd by the dealer, as long as you have all the info you can get them to fix it. I had a ford focus that they done that to me on. At 36,205 miles they magically found that the ECU was going bad, wanted something like 2000 dollars to replace it, i took all my receipts down from the 16 times i had it down there in the previous 10 months and ford fixed it, for free. Took some effort, but if you have had it down there several times for the same issue and they cant "find" the problem, you have a better shot of getting it fixed.

I don't understand why the 6 speed manual come equipped with power windows, mirrors, door locks and electronic 4X4... Think about this, I want make the effort to shift my vehicle several hundred times in a few miles, but please don't bother me with such trivial tasks as adjusting my mirrors and rolling the window down. This is the kind of thing that keeps me up at night. haha

There shouldn't be dislikes. Just future mods.

I want to be buried in my truck when I die. The single most reliable thing, I have ever owned.

My 2nd gen was reliable but the longer I had it the more I disliked it. I didn't like the finicky electronic transfer case or all of the plastic parts that rattled on dirt roads. The interior was showing tons of wear before it even hit 50,000 miles. The tailgate taco'd from setting two 5 gallon jugs of water on it. The paint scratched just from looking at it funny. Two of the mudflaps split from icy slush buildup. It would get 12 MPG in winter. The leaf springs were pathetic. I switched to a 1st gen and that corrected all of my complaints. 2004 is the final model year of my Toyota pickup loyalty.

    Likes:
My kids no longer complain about sitting in the rear seats (previous truck was a 1st gen xtracab so they complained rightfully so)
My wife no longer complains about the kids complaining about the rear seats
Feels more solidly built compared to my previous 1st gen.

Dislikes (all known issues when I purchased it):
The voice recognition system is worthless
The navigation system needs to give more advanced notice of upcoming turns, etc.
No heated mirrors (future mod planned)
No outside temperature gauge (future mod planned)
    No bed lights (added these)
Lousy reverse lighting (added auxillary reverse lights)
No rear seat USB outlets (added an AC power outlet w/USB ports)
The bed surface is slippery (planned to have it Line-Xed but got a bed mat instead)
The bed is actually narrower than the 1st gen although the truck is wider
Stock 18" chrome-clad wheels (plan to swap these out once the tires are worn down)

A lot of members are saying that they don't have outdoor temperature display in their Tacoma. My 2013 TRD Offroad Prerunner has a temp display along with compass on the rear view mirror. I thought that feature comes standard nowadays.

It has been removed from more recent models. Because the super smart Entune radio can pull an effing weather forecast and display that temperature instead from HD FM stations. Cause you know the temperature an hour ago at the Vegas airport tells me a whole lot about the current temperature sixty mikes away and 7000 ft higher.

I like my 2nd gen but I don't think I like it as much as my gen manual I owned. MPG is pretty awful on the gen 2 but it is what is is. As long as it's reliable I will be happy with it.
