    Seems like there is a pretty mixed opinion vs outcome. Take them off and risk paint chips, leave them on or take them off and no paint chips.

    Tough call.

    I took mine off the day I bought mine as well. 10 1/2 years later nothing major. I took them off cause I was driving home and saw another taco driving on the freeway and his front mud flaps were flapping in the wind. I laughed and then looked out my window and mine were doing it too. so I said f that and took them all off.

    I trimmed all of my stock flaps to about 4 inches long using a dremel tool and a piece of 40 grit sand paper to smooth the edges. I cut it off the length I wanted and used the lower part I cut off as a template to shape it. Took about an hour to do all four. I liked the protection that they gave me I was just tired of them scraping on everything I drove over
