3rd generation Tacoma life expectancy

How many miles do you guys thing the 3rd generation Tacoma will last

 

Depends how you take care of it.

 

I plan on one million miles for mine......

 

Same here unless someone totals it like they did to my 07 back in 13. It had 227,000

Seriously one of my former employers had the engine blow in his VW Touareg, went 35 000km before doing an oil change.
His excuse "new engines are so much better they don't need the oil changed all the time"

Somehow managed to get a mechanic to make fake oil change records so that he could get it covered under warranty.

But seriously, as much as many of us on here will hate on the big 3 brands, majority of vehicles can be reliable if you take care of them.
Just have to keep up with maintenance and have it done by someone that knows what they are doing and not a hack, or if you know how to do it all yourself properly.
Toyota engines are usually pretty reliable, I'd sooner be worried about the body and frame rotting away.


If I get 600-700k KM I'm happy

Don't care, 3 years and time for a new one. Let someone else take it to the end of its life, that's always been my plan. I like full warranties with no cost to me, other than the loss on the difference. If there is a loss, usually there is a cost difference, but worth it for the worry free.

 

I find something I like and I keep it, until the end.

Yep. I tend to buy and hold. Or I buy off-lease and hold.

Generally the most expensive thing to do is buy new and trade in two or three years. Fine if that's your thing.

 

8 years or 125k miles -- whichever comes first

Unless they fix these problems I'm dumping this thing as soon as I feel like I'm not gonna take a bath or as soon as Toyota corporate has paid for at least the entire price of the truck in replacement parts.

 

I got 10 years out of one Toyota, 12 years out of the other. No reason to think I can't get that much time out of this one.

 

I plan to keep mine until it dies. Hope its not for many many years. Only time will tell

Wish I had this philosophy, lots of vehicles I've had in the past could still be in my garage, but I just move on to the next one and don't look back. Still, I miss some of them that I should have kept in my garage. Never was a money issue, just thought more than one was a waste. There are a few I regret getting rid of. No regrets though, this truck is right for me.

 

I'd expect it to last about as long as my 2nd gen. By 9 years/160k miles the frame was getting too rusty to continue spending money on parts.

While I owned it I replaced:

Rear springs/shocks
Front shocks
Front calipers and rotors twice
Air bag clock spring
All 3 rear u-joints
Center support bearing twice
Front wheel bearings
All 4 Idler pulleys and the tensioner assy.
Alternator

When I traded the truck in it needed:

Upper ball joints
Steering shaft and rack
Tie rod ends
Front differential bearing
TPMS sensors

To give the truck credit it always started, never left me stranded, the check engine never once came on and it never leaked a drop of oil. Replaced it with a used Frontier that was a good price and 2 years in I like it more over all. I considered the 3rd gen but didn't want a first or second model year.
