I guess you didn't own a Gen 2. This rig is a whole lot quieter.

May I say I did my Gen 2 DC Pre-Runner. I did both the interior and exterior of each door with dampener and closed cell foam. It did make difference.

It did not come with out its problems especially in hot weather.

Before you do this UNDERSTAND SOUND DAMPENING. I know... I know people will argue this. But YOU DO NOT need to cover everything in dampening material to adequately make a difference. Like a whole lot less than you think.

Yup. Generally 80% coverage will suffice.

The sound proofing works good and helps some. I went back and covered the cab vents with a 1/2 inch thick piece of memory foam, tapped in place with alum duct tape reduced the road noise greatly. The doors still close easy.

Coming from a 2nd gen, my 3rd gen is definitely quieter.

Its a truck, so it sounds like a truck.

If it were a lexus, I'd be disappointed.

    But its not.

    So im satisfied.

My other car is a Lexus RX350 and while my Tacoma is not as quiet, I've been pleasantly surprised how quiet it is. Mine has the stock Firestone Destination tires.

This has been my experience. The sound deadener helped, but it wasn't a drastic change. I'll eventually install additional materials, including MLV.
