I have read that some of the guys on here had to fight with Toyota to get their frames replaced. Don't give up. Take it in for an inspection by the dealer. If it fails you have a fighting chance. Some dealers are better at working with you and Toyota to get it done. Push the issue if it doesn't pass muster...

thanks all. I will press the issue with them when i bring my truck in for the spare carrier.

I would suppose any altering of the frame voids any warranty. I was thinking even if i got under there and covered it in POR15 or any kind of rust neutralizer even it if is just a good spray primer.....do you think they would turn you away for trying to prevent it?

They are already forking over 3.4 billion.........when you get into those kinds of number i dont understand why a few more is a big deal.....but business is business....even if it is bad business.

I would get it inspected before treating it, just to be safe. I dont know why they would turn you down for trying to save it, tho. I know one guy on here had rock sliders welded to his frame and they still replaced it.

Just to add to all of this. I called toyota corporate about mine. The very nice lady(lisa)gave me another number to call. I'm thinking cool I'm going to get somewhere. NOPE! Number she gave me is to tell me all about the recall for the 05-08's. UGH!!!:notsure: Didn't do me alot of good to give her my VIN# and tell her I have an '03 then have her pull this. Going to get back on the phone today and see where it takes me. This is a very discouraging first toyota experience I'm having, but thanks to all the folks here I'm defiantly going to have this one or another to play with.

i just had a quick look under my truck around the box and the tank. The coating is gone. its a dried up thin layer of flaking worthlessness at this point. What is left there is all cracked and pulls off like brittle paint chips. The frame itself has deep rust but no holes. It is surely way more than surface rust. I had a 1969 Jeepster Commando with rust holes in floor and body panels but the frame looked less rusty than this. Great old 4x4. I miss that thing. Anyway....if it ever warms up, ill have a better look with a hammer and punch.

Were you going to take a sarcastic joke about toyota's definition of "unsafe" as a personal insult, or just be a whiny baby?
