Splash models were the bees knees, then the edge models. S10 xtremes were pretty popular back in the day too.

I still don't get why everyones obsessed with diesels. In a fullsize sure, when you are actually using it for what it's designed to do which is towing. A midsized truck isn't meant for that.

Look at the gm twins...the duramax is rated to tow ONLY 700 pounds more than the v6...and you are going to be paying way more money up front and costs more to maintain over time. Want to know why it's only 700 pounds? Because it's a MIDsize truck.

All this talk about who is better than who is pretty old. For the most part they will all last if you maintain them and not abuse it.

My brother just bought a 2011 ford ranger which i believe is the last year they made it and i will admit it is pretty nice...he hasn't had any issues with it..yet. :)

However, the only concern i do have with the newer fords are the ecoboost engines. I know they make great power, but not to sure about the longevity of them. I've heard nothing but good things about the 5.0. I did hear a rumor though that they may replace it with a 4.8 liter that is more efficient and makes more power...no surprise there.

I can only think of one purpose as to why I would want a diesel and its due to off-road use for more low end torque. However I would want an old diesel like the 5cyl Toyota Diesel used overseas but we will never see that. There is no way I would want to be offroad in the middle of nowhere with a vehicle that requires DEF and DPF.

    I guess why not?

I've owned Ford diesels in the past in the form of SuperDuties and I've owned several Tacomas, I like them both. My last F250 4x4 got as good as or better MPG than my last Taco.

Gotcha, I guess when I decided on a midsize truck I evaluated its intended purpose. I had an F250 and was no longer towing so when we went to replace it I ruled out fullsize all together and compared all the compact trucks on the market. I look at fullsize trucks as towing/work trucks and compact trucks as lifestyle trucks, they offer different utility.

Just in case the twenty year history of the Dodge 6 cyl Cummins doesnt cross your radar when reevaluating your comment.... my M923A 5 ton is also powered by Cummins 6 cylinder engine. Why yes, that is a 6x6 with a fording kit capable of navigating through 6' of water... thanks for asking.
