Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday.

So my wife surprised the crud out of my and found the exact surf rod rack I had been wanting and got it for me for Christmas. Even better she found it on Craigslist, in like new condition and she had no help- she knows me too well.

Anyway, I am waiting for my Mobtown front recovery bar to come in the week so I can really see what it looks like, but so far it looks great...

My question is- there has to be a way to lock the rods down. I know a company makes locks but they are $20 each and that is 120 bucks. Bacically it needs to keep the grab and go person. If the want it that bad they will find a way.

My thoughts are to take coated wire and loop and clamp it around the horizontal tube and leave about 16 inches of cord and loop and clamp that end. Do this for all six- they have a lone single cable that I would run from one side of the rack to the other taking it through the eyelets of the six lines and then having one single lock thus holding all rods in the rack. This is just my idea. I will draw it out with rope first. Here is a pict from today when I got it... So everything is still a brainstorm.

What other options have people used?

$120 doesn't seem like all that much for peace of mind. But you could easily cable them together. Maybe drill a hole in the tube on the far side, loop the cable through the reels to a padlock on the other side, I have seen that done.

I agree, if I was leaving them on the car all the time I would spend the money- but I was able to make one that will work for now. Wire cable and a padlock.

When I was using my rod rack alot, my buddy and I used coated cable and swage clamps. Then looped the short section over the real seat arm and padlocked them into the holder. It's not bulletproof, but it'll stop a grab-n-go at a store or in the dark.

Those little gun cable locks seem like they'd fit the bill.

Simply Drill a Hole into to Rod holders. Thread them, and lock the rods into the holders

i see you have the roof rack. PERSONALLY, i only travel on the beach with mine in the rack, they travel locked to my roof for that exact reason. i dont want to get snatchtified, at a red light.

i think the dude above is on the right track, with the firearm cable locks. small hole in the tube and you are done. i have too much tied up in my surf gear to get got at a red light. locked up in the snowboard rack is where mine stay for travel.
