Not to mention that folks can really do this homework themselves.

Come up with the MSRP plus all dealer/doc fees, everything but taxes, tag/title fees (TTL). Compare to your price not counting TTL.

If your price is $2-3k below the MSRP total before TTL, you did pretty good. If you didn't, it may be simply due to regional and other differences.

What really matters in the end is whether you're satisfied with your deal.

You can look up the MSRP on Toyota's website, but if I recall it was low $36k.
And nowadays all new vehicles from a dealership have a Destination Charge and Document Fee. But even with those I ended up being less than $36k, so I think I did alright.

Curious to peoples input... Looking at a 2017 TRD Off Road 4x4 the MSRP with all options is 38,299. If I can get this truck for $33,800 or $4,500 off MSRP would it be good deal? TrueCar seems to be high on prices, though I have been looking and can't seem to get many dealerships to come off MSRP more than $1,200 to $1,500.
    Thanks for the input!

Yes that would be good. I have the same truck but my MSRP was was little higher due to options, they did $36,600. I doubt they would go 33,800, they will just offer a lower model, but they might go $35,000

I paid 6k off MSRP for a TRD Sport DCSB 4x4 with tow pkg and a few other odds and ends but no prem/tech pkg (before TTL). 4.5k off is still a really good deal as long as they don't rob you in misc dealer fees

start emailing them. In the DFW area I would expect at least 2500 of MSRP. I got 10% on my 2009 and my 2013. It took a little work but I was not settling for less. I had Toyota of Richardson, Plano, & Rockwall bidding against each other. I talked to Pat Lobb in McKinney breigly but thought they were jerks or at least the person I talked to. I know discounts are a little higher on Tundras but I was looking at one in November and the initial discount was 14.4%. I felt I could have picked it up for 15% or a little more. Just have to find a dealer that is hungry.

For that kind of money you might as well buy the TRD OR...

Not unless you didn't want an OR obviously. The leather and Toyoguard and clear paint protection is what boosted it up. It really doesn't matter though - ever since I sold my 2005 Tacoma I have been dying to get back in one. Only now I have the means to get the exact truck I want. Suspension, tires, wheels, tonneau, BAMF grill all waiting in the garage for her when she comes home.

Why not just buy an SR5 and add hood scoop then? I mean you know on a sport that's all you're really getting is painted fenders and a hood scoop (compared to an OR)

The price is the same between Sport and Off Road, but you get more stuff on the Off Road.

Just make sure you know the differences between the SR5 and the TRD Sport/OR trims. The 2017 Tacoma Brochure PDF is a good resources to really see what gets what.

I compared the models in the build/price section of the website to verify what came with what.
