Trying to get about 2" of lift out of my 5100s. New 5100s all around on my 03 ext. cab v6 4x4. Stock bumpers not looking to really upgrade them for a while. Which would work best for 90% on road driving l. 881s or 882s?

881s only gave me about an inch on my 04 v6 4x4 xtra cab, I ended up having to preload my 5100s to the first setting to get 2". I'd go with the 882s

Especially if you do plan on adding any weight in the future, the 881s won't cut it.

FWIW I have the 881s with OME shocks and it gave me 3" and they are stiff, I would even drop to the 880 but I think it's the shock more than anything. 882 are taller at 3" and probably too much.

881 (Average lift from this coil set on an extra cab v6 Tacoma is 1.75-2″. On the 4Runner these provide 1.5″-1.75″. These are made from 16mm wire, have a free height of 375mm, and have a 500lb rate)
882 (These are made from 16.5mm wire, have a free height of 395mm, and have a 500lb rate.
*Note: the 882 Coil Set is Only Recommended for Double Cab Tacoma’s or V6 Extra Cabs Running A Winch & Bullbar. They’re going to provide approximately 2.25″-2.5″ lift on a V6 extra cab Tacoma with a winch and bullbar.)
883 (Some customers are asking for these newer coils for heavier applications similar to the ones listed for the 2882 Tacoma coils. On a 95-04 Tacoma v6 xtra cab with winch and bullbar or 96-02 4Runner v6 with winch and bullbar the lift is approximately 2.5″.
These are made from 16.5mm wire, have a free height of 375mm (same free height as 2881), and have a 590lb rate.)

How does yours ride with them on the first setting?

Maybe I'll just preload the 5100s to the first setting and run 881s. Honestly unless I come acrossed a steal on a bumper setup I don't think I'll go that route.

It rides fine, I didn't notice much if any difference from when the 5100s were at 0". The first setting for the 1st gen taco's 5100s is .67" so it's not much of a preload.

If you where to do it again would you go 882s with no preload or 881s?

Use your stock springs on the highest setting.

Do you mean stock springs with the highest setting on the 5100s? Cause that's a bad idea.

I would go 882s, for the better ride (no preload) and so I have the option to add weight (bumper) later on.

You obviously have no idea what you're talking about. 5100's were designed to be used only with the stock springs. In fact, the manufacturers advise against using any other springs with them because they are too stiff.

lol, wow. You sir have no flipping clue what you're talking about.

I don't care what Bilstein says, maxing out the preload on shocks will always ride like crap compared to the other way around.

There is no such thing as "shock preload." Keep digging yourself that hole junior.
