I hate to see that much of a hit, there are always people on here carrying on about resale value too. The Dealer I was just speaking to said they use NADA for Trades and that does show a small increase over KBB.

    Truck stuff
As others have said additions by you do not increase or even keep there resale value to a dealer or most buyers. You typically will not get back even 50% of what you pay in extra items to "customize" a vehicle. Also, its a 3 month old truck. You take the biggest hit the second you drive it off the lot. The resale value adds up once you recoup the initial depreciation from driving it off the lot. Take a loss or keep it for another year or 2 and see where the resale value starts to help you.

Maybe I am crazy. I do get a smile every time I look at a picture. I may tell my wife the 4Runner will have to wait. We're not rich.

You over paid in the first place. Off roads are going for less than 40k. I paid 36k for mine. You said it yourself you only paid 38k. Thats only a 5k loss. Every truck matter the make or model lose at least 3k driving it off the lot. It if was any other make or model. It would be worth 33k private. You would have been offered 30k.

    Chuck,
Maybe prices are different in OK, but here in Southern Ohio the max dealers will discount us around $2k. I got almost $2500 off and that was a week of haggling two dealers.

Mine doesnt have the tech package.

But believe it or not, a week of haggling is nothing. I would bet you paid the avg price of everyone else in your area. I spend a month of haggling only got 2k off or something like that. Southern states dont get much of a discount. Trucks sell down here.

Dealer has to make some money on you. Thats really what this comes down to.

I agree, factor in tax savings if any. I did on my '13 Tacoma, the difference in the end for what the dealer was selling it for was only $600 in the end. Wasn't worth the hassle selling it privately, IMO.

How about NADA, KBB, or Truecar? Or you could just ask random website users. Either way...

A guy at work bought his '17 OR in early December and is considering getting rid of it. Hates the lack of bottom end power.
