When I wired up my dust light I pulled out old wiring from circa 2010 lights I don't have anymore
... and then hijacked 3 feet of it to reach the dust light

 

the fuse can be higher"amps" but not lower i got a shit ton of fuses on Amazon for like $10 and a soldering kit also just picked up like 10 rolls of electrical tape at harbor freight it was $5 i couldnt resist lol

 

Ya, I definitely am getting a fuse box before I add anything else cuz I have the water pump back there too. So I'd need to run 4 for sure, and then I know I'll want CB/HAM back there so there's 2 more things, and then an extra just in case so like 7 under the truck haha. One day...

 

Blue Sea fuse block bud its the best and like 30ish dollars you can use some self tapping screws for mounting anywhere u have room i tapped mine into factory fuse cover

 

Well think of it like this: if a circuit is built to 3 amps you put a 3-5 amp breaker in front of it. The idea being: a bit of overload for a short period of time is often buildinto and expected, but if it is a full on short you want the fuse to go before the wiring heats up and melts/sets fire to the insulation.

Similarly with my circuit breaker on my fuse box: if the fuse box tries to draw over 100 amps the breaker will trip.

You always want the fuse/breaker to be just about the same size or slightly over your calculated load. But UNDER the safety threshold for your equipment (amperage rating of wiring, fuse boxes, your lamps, etc.) Safety overhead of ~30% exists in most wiring applications/equipment, but that is an exception not a rule! Fuses are cheap to replace and quick. Fires to your truk are not!

 

I do electrical work for a living. I've been throwing around the idea of putting together an electrical mod day/BBQ at the shop.

Ya thats probably what I'll go with. Just no extra money right now or time to do it. Or electrical knowledge to wire them up. I can wire the harnesses up cuz I know where it goes but I'd have to get someone to help me out with the fuseblock and all that shit.

I would be definitely in on this. Need to clean up my messy wiring and install my switches. That Switch Pros GB is a pretty amazing deal though. Nearly $100 off. Tempting... I already have a 3d-printer made 3-switch mount for the useless driver-side cubby, just need to purchase my switches and install.

 

If there's a meetup day then for sure, otherwise I'll probably contract @digitaLbraVo since he doesn't live an hour away from me Maybe a desert shooting/electrical mod day haha
