So I figured out how to score a fiberglass cap. After months of searching Craigslist for one with no luck, I had the idea to start asking the guys selling whole trucks, with caps if they'd sell the cap separately. Three casts and I got a bite. I got this one for $350. I was intending on painting it, but I think the blue on speedway blue looks good. One issue though... There's no sliding front window for my dog to look through. Any suggestions on how to open that up? She loves riding in the bed and has a rubber mat so she doesn't slide around. IMAG0809.jpg

You'd have to buy a new window assembly, and it'd be pretty costly I think.

My dog loves putting her head out of the sliding windows on the side, instead.. the one time I had the cab windows open, she jumped from the shell to the back seat, so that was the end of that.

Lol. I dunno if my dog would try that. She might. I was thinking of cutting something out of plexiglass, or a gasket or something. There are plenty of free shells with broken sides and back windows on the web. Just not sure which route to go. Easier is better at the moment. Don't want any extra big projects, at the moment.

Leaks would be my concern, but that might not be one of yours.

Broken window = free shell because the windows cost so much, the rear window of my SnugTop is $650 to replace. I paid that much for the shell when I got it.

    Workin' on it....
While I totally agree that this would be the most cost effective way to go, some people have had problems with the boot rubbing on the cab from the box flexing and have damaged their paint.

Is that the one that blows up in place? Might be open to trying that. Would like to keep the paint nice on the truck too. Currently also looking for free and cheap shells (busted ones) on Craigslist to see if I can score a similar slider window. If it were even a little bigger, I could put it in there with a little triming. Have the guys liked the water tightness of the gasket above? I think I like that compression boot stuff but it is pricey.

Anyone know of a way to pop the window out when she's back there? I've also considered just finding a rear slider window for a small truck on the cheap and mounting it in there.

Nissan would be sacreligious..... looks like FJ / 4Runner wheels with non OEM color.

Try looking up the manufacture of shell, maybe there's options.

Lol. No... Those wheels are from a 4Runner. I had them powdered in Gunmetal Grey.

Been a long time since I replied to this thread. I solved the problem. Went to a local used cap dealer. The had piles of windows and let me sort through to find a good used replacement. $50 bucks was the damage. My window came from a Tundra cap. Mild fitting and it was in.

Yeah, I kind of dig it too. I set a hoist up in the garage and I just back in, and remove it or put it on, as I need or don't need it. Currently driving around without it. I figured it could've been any old color and I wouldn't care. Just needed it for specific times. I guess I got lucky with the blue. Although, I considered putting faux wood vinyl on it to look like a log cabin effect. lol. I like odd stuff.
