I was recently driving my 2013 Toyota Tacoma up a slight hill while pulling an empty 6'x12' pacer trailer. Part way up the hill there was tapping that turned into a loud clunking. As the vehicle slowed the sound subsided, but with any acceleration the noise returned. I took it straight to the dealer. The vehicle has less than 33,000 miles on it so it should be covered under warranty since I kept up with regular maintenance, oil changes, etc. A rod appears to have dropped, and Toyota is not willing to warranty the vehicle saying my records of regular maintenance are not sufficient.

Has anyone heard of this issue in other 2013 Tacomas?

X2 They should cover it even if you did the maintenance.

Who is resisting? Is it Toyota? Or is it the DEALER?

As far as having heard of this issue before, I've heard of oil starvation issues affecting the driver's side half on the 4.0 (you don't mention which engine you have), but I think they are restricted to top end damage, not bottom end like yours.

    I dunno.

I remember reading quite clearly that detailed maintenance records were required to keep my extended warranty valid.

Extended warranty is different from the standard warranty.
The standard warranty is protected by the Magnuson Moss act.
Technically, you don't even need to provide maintenance records in order for the standard warranty to be maintained, since it is Toyota's responsibility to PROVE that something you did actually caused the failure.

On a '13 the factory warranty is most likely out out due to time. 3yr/36k

I didn't notice until yesterday. Argued blue in the face about something that was completely wrong. Then disappeared when I proved it.

Fucking nuisance, and a help to nobody when you spew bad information as fact.

If you're still attacking me, you never proved anything besides the fact that you're an ignorant redneck.

I would try a different dealer. Sounds like BS about the maintenance records.

That's a requirement of Toyota, not a dealer request.

Dealers aren't involved except to complete work orders, Toyota is the king and they own zero dealerships.
