Hey Guys.. so kind of in a predicament.. need some opinions.

May be offered a new job.. with a substantial pay raise (about a 45% increase) including shift differential pay as it is second shift (2pm-10:30pm). The drive is further at 18 miles vs my commute of 3 miles currently. The job seems pretty awesome itself, and is right up my alley. I just don't know if the change is worth it. The shift is the biggest thing. the traveling distance close behind that.

I am submitting my resume today, should hear back this week, and set up an interview early next week. I'm unsure though, change is tough.. and the pros and cons kind of cancel each other out. Have any of you made a change like this?

45% is pretty big. Do you think after a year or so you would have the option for a better shift schedule?

The biggest thing to way is your time with friends, family, wife. If lyds works opposing shifts your time together will be weekends, then while everyone is at work you are sleeping or off waiting to go to work. Then the drive, 18 miles is a decent amount when your hitting traffic so depending on where you drive to value that time of being stuck on the freeway. Money is great, oh is it great, but sometimes right down the road, and stability is nice. Now do either job seem to have better potential for development of your career, or do both pretty much have you where you will be and finishing out your time before moving on somewhere else or retirement.

Yes, I believe that is definitely possible. Its a contract to hire, but they hire everyone, and I've been through the process so I'm not worried about not being kept on. I'm sure I just need to put in the time before I can change anything.

Definitely. Just want to get as much info as I can.. this is definitely new territory for me. The pay is a big factor fir sure. Money has always been an issue with us, so this will help big time. The benefits are on par, same with PTO. There shouldnt be any traffic either. I'll be driving from Chandler and Cooper to Queen Creek area.

Thats the biggest deterrent right now. We wouldnt see each other, except weekends. I would have more time during the day to get stuff/errands done in the morning, which is nice, but definitely would be missing out on evening events.

Its definitely interesting. should be fun even. I have a much better opportunity at this new place for growth. They bump up levels and pay, move to different departments, etc.

The only draw back.. is that I have access to all the goodies at my current job.. CNC's, 3D printers, CAD tables, Solidworks.. which is exactly what I've always wanted. work somewhere where I can use my imagination and creativeness. That, and all these parts I've been producing go out the window with the new job. BUT.. might open other cool opportunities as well.

45% increase!!?!! Do it! Yeah it's not as close, but the pay will be worth it. 2-10:30pm isn't that bad. I worked that shift for years.

If it were me, I'd do it.

Still that's a good raise regardless of what you make. Hell I got notification that I get no raise or bonus again this year, company wide. If you think the job is stable I'd go for it.
