    I have to replace the rack and pinion unit on my 02 4x4. On Rockauto there are no units that say they are for a 4x4. Are the units the same on 4x4 and the Pre Runners. Just want to make sure before I buy on. Also the only new one is a Cardone select brand is this a good brand?

    Thanks

    First of all, why are you replacing the rack? That is a lot of money to spend when it could be something much cheaper. I would assume that the racks are the same for the prerunners and 4x4s. No matter what brand you get whether it is new or remanufactured, it would probably be worthwhile to find something with a warranty.

    I am replacing the rack because I wrecked the truck this week. One of the tie rods got bent and they don't sell them separately a new rack is only $370. I could get a remanufactured one for 150 to 280 depending on manufacturer.

    You can definitely buy inner and outer tie rods on their own if that's all you need.

    ONLY........ :der::jerkoff:

    So long as you have a 6 cyl, 44250-35042 is the number for your rack according to the parts list. $450 on rock auto. You can also use BBB 311-0199 for $495.00.

    They are not the same. Called Camelback when I did my rack about 2 weeks ago. They said they are different. not sure why??

    Its a pretty penny. but my truck feels soo much better. Im close to 180k and I drive her like I stole her when I am out in the sticks. It was time

    OP, go OEM if you can. A little more $ but totally worth it. I heard a lot of people say that there rack has leaked shortly after installing a reman one. Just my 2 cents.

    Yeah that's why I said to find one with a good warranty if he was going aftermarket because not everyone can swing $700 for a new rack haha
