    1. It's you money you can spend it where you want
    2. The one dealership you go to it's the only show in town.

Good luck with your search.

This would have been my first and only reason to pass on this dealer.

I don't make appointments, I just show up or call to ask if car is there, then say ok bye. look at the car/truck first before talking about numbers.

If you make appointment, they know you are coming and may not go down on price as much.

    Just IMO.

I walked in right after work to look at my '10 and had spilled something on my Hawaiian shirt that day, so I walked in wearing jeans and a Rob Zombie shirt. I am not rich but my credit is impeccable and the trade I had was in excellent shape, they were good to me start to finish.

It's a lose lose situation if salespeople are prejudging, that absolutely can't happen if a store is going to be successful overall. The cars ought to just be one price and sales paid 100% on volume and csi, that mostly eliminates this kind of mistreatment. But then again, people are going to complain no matter what.

Really good point here. Seems like a lot of people pull a number out of the air without anything to base it on. Nowadays it is fairly easy to find out almost exactly what a dealership paid for a car (using the internet and/or simply asking for dealer invoice). Subtract factory to dealer incentives, calculate a 3%-5% dealer profit, and there you have a good starting number. There are other variables like destination fees, etc., but the point is to actually base your negotiation on something concrete.

When I started shopping for my truck this time, the first thing I told the salesman, "I want a new truck, my job is to get this truck while keeping the most money in my pocket, your job is to get me to spend that money. I know the game" I don't let the sales folks deter me from getting what I want, I use the way they talk to me and the things they do to cut at the cost.
When I bought my first Tacoma, the owner chased me down in the parking lot as I was leaving. Asked why I was driving out in the same vehicle I came in with. I told he his sales guys are trying to screw me and not treating me fair. He got me to come back in, told the sales guy to sell me at the price I was asking, give me another 500 for my trade and take another 500 off as a discount. Looked at me and said what about now. I told him I like the deal, but needed to discuss with my wife. He asked for my phone number and called my wife to talk to her about the deal. I drove home in the truck for a grand less than I expected. The second time I dealt with the same dealership, I ended up sending a letter to the owner about how I was offered a deal one day, but they changed it the next. How my son looked up to him (they sponsored some local car racing and do a lot for the community) and it was a shame how we would have to leave town to buy our new truck. Again got a better deal than was quoted. This time I was not as fortunate, the owner passed on the dealership to his son. But after being treated like crap and not happy with it, I emailed his the new owner. Got 2 phone calls with in hour or so. In the end, about 300 under invoice.
