I start my truck like this exactly:
    - insert key, look for any warnings, if none then
    - press clutch all the way
    - confirm i'm in 1st
    - turn key to start

in the last few days there is a delay between turning the key to start and the starter turning or any sound even, and the delay is getting longer, but not every time. truck is about 2200mi old now.

i thought it was just scanning before engaging, but it's not consistent. sometimes it starts right up, other times it delays a couple seconds, other times it delays 6 or more seconds before starting... and this seems like an awfully long time. a little while ago it didn't engage for about 8-10 secs so i turned the key back, fiddled with the wheel, and started again with a 2-3 second delay that time. nothing unusual on the displays, no messages. haven't scanned for codes. everything seems to be working 100%.

anyone else get the start delay on an MT? or even an AT?

Been pretty quiet around here last couple of days. Might heat up this weekend...

Hope you get this peculiar issue resolved. I picture a scene from a horror flick where you're sitting there trying to get your Taco to start as the Zombies quickly approach. Sitting and waiting...waiting..waiting...:annoyed::help:

well i honestly expected 12 folks to immediately chime in and say it's normal and i need to sit a little to the left and it'll work. so, this is not cool. at least everything is running as it should.

i installed a 35w HID kit with ballasts and a Diode Dynamics relay recently. haven't had any warnings or hiccups, but i wonder if this could be related.

Not that I think its related, but why start it in gear? I've always started a manual in neutral. I let the clutch out to circulate fluid for a few seconds before engaging 1st.

old habits die hard is probably why. i learned stick shifting in a very old Saab jalopy on the streets of NYC, so there's no telling the quirks I've picked up.

I would be curious to hit the clutch start cancel button and see if that clears it up. Might be the clutch safety switch is sluggish to react? Presumably the switch would bypass that safety and help diagnose.

Not sure what your issue may be, but the 1st thing I'd do is clean the battery terminals and the clamps.....if you notice... there is not much of a "connection surface" (contact) with these trucks.... possibly the battery is not getting fully charged..?? Like I say, that would be my 1st check. Go from there...
Next is to check the battery with a tester, while trying to start it... you want to see if it drops down below 10V or so... If it does... clean connections.. check fluid level...charge battery... try again....
    Next... take to the Stealership...!!
    Good luck my friend..

Have you completed the daily sacrificial blood offering to your truck? All Pros require fresh blood everyday to function.

In case you don't know how, just bleed into the gas tank for about 10 seconds, and I promise you it'll fire right up.

i put in some weather beaters a few days ago. the driver's side was loose and pushed forward a bit preventing full clutch pedal movement. i just noticed this. I locked the mat in place and have been extra strong with the clutch pedal today, and no delays at all in maybe 8 starts. this may have been the issue but I'm keeping my eyes open.

anyone else notice if the clutch start safety engages at the very bottom of the pedal range? seems mine engages right at the floor.

Haven't seen this on my 5MT. And as far as the above, I always start in gear, since I'm always parked in gear.
