I just bought a 2001 reg cab 2.7 ,4x4 with a 2 month old frame. I live on the coast of Maine so our frames get really hammered by the brine on the road . Needless to say it is hard to find a good used truck. Thank god for the Toyota frame recall !! The rest of the truck is pretty decent so I will do what I can to protect it. We are having our Jan. thaw and temps are above 40 so I can smell things that were not noticable when I bought the truck in 10 degree weather. I am getting a strong musty oder from the heater fan before it heats up . I have along history with VW vans so I know exactly what mice in your heater smells like and I don,t think its that. So I am wondering about what folks have done to clean out or sanitize the heating system. Also what are the favorite places mice like to hang out on this truck?
    Thanks

I've heard that you can spray something (like Lysol) into the intake (near the wipers) while the HVAC is on. Then let it set a while. Repeat until smell is gone. This is supposed to kill the mold that has built up inside so it may take a while.

Do some research on Google before you try this. I haven't done this yet.

Yeah try what tan4x4 said and make sure that deal that catches your a/c condensation, keep wanting to say condenser but i feel like that's not the right word.. drawing a blank here!! Someone help me out here! But that thing can get plugged up and get funky then start to overflow into the cab even! Then it really gets bad inside!

Take the blower fan out ( passenger side under the glove dept ) and clean out the rotting debris.
