I am really thinking hard about pulling the trigger and putting a deposit down on the 2017 TRD Pro in white. Should arrive mid-Feb. I am in need of a new vehicle, as I do not currently have one. I live in the desert. I know the price is outrageous but I am also not very mechanically inclined at this time and do not have the time nor understanding of what it would take to do a TRD off-road and make it look cooler and more off-road capable. The TRD Pro seems like something that looks cool right out of the lot and also has off-road capability. I'd probably want to but new tired and lights on it ASAP. after that, i'd probably drive it stock for a year to get comfortable driving it. Then maybe invest in more mechanical parts like the locking differentials, and front winch tow hooks, etc.

Am I wrong in my thinking?

How do you plan to really use the truck? The Pro isn't significantly more capable than an OR. It does have a better suspension but its not amazing by any means. They look sexy though. You could always get the OR and mod it later, I always recommend the PRo for people who plan to keep it stock.

I'm thinking you probably ought to ensure you know more about the differences between the OffRoad and PRO trim levels and how they relate to your wants and needs.

I will probably off-road it but only on trails and maybe OHV areas where at all more safe. I live in Arizona. Will be driving it from Vegas, to LA, to Phoenix once every 2-3 months. It will get alot of highway miles. It will also be taken camping. I want to get a dirtbike, and thats not possible with a 4runner.

I will probably keep it stock for the first 1 -2 years. Then as it gets older, maybe mod the suspension and mechanics first. Add some exterior improvements over time.

This. I opted for my TRD OR without 4x4 beccause I like to traverse on multiple terrains, but I don't live in an area where I would get any real use out of the 4x4 to justify the cost of buying it. Of course I would love to own a pro model, but again, the needs don't justify the cost of the want.

Sure it is, get a small trailer to pull it in or a hitch mount. Our 2016 4Runner performs leaps and bounds better than my 3rd gen Tacoma. The 4Runner is also a MUCH better road trip vehicle.39197d1297354809-motorcycle-carrier-hitc_289f8c48532ebd7f3b6de9c08522a30b782c65aa.jpg

Yeah turns out I may have to go with the OR after all.
All these dealers want $5000 over MSRP -- which i just can't do because of the principal of the matter. I'm not giving away free money.

You changed your mind after 13 mins?

I think you need to do more research on this, you seem trigger-happy

Sounds like the Pro will be a good fit. If you can afford it and justify the premium for it, then you should definitely do it. You also picked the best color for a truck too.

i am trigger happy because I have the money and need a new vehicle ASAP to travel for business and school and also want to have fun road tripping this summer.

i am looking for the best deal though - i'm not rich.

over the last few months i've been researching all sorts of off-road vehicles.

1st wanted the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk - decided no because of historical reliability issues with the manufaturer
then the TRD Pro 4Runner -- but none available anywhere
and now the taco makes the most sense -- except I cant justify the premium.

Some dealers play games -- like they are willing to work with you and take off the premium.

I'd say get the OR and ask some of the forum members who may live in your area who are mechanically inclined to help you build a much better truck than the pro for a lot less dough. Your money your call though.

Go for it! Life is short... you wont regret buying a great truck thats ready for the kind of on/off road duty you described.

I bought my pro back in 15, no regrets, I love it!
