lol I know you don't. I just can't fathom how somebody trying to get in shape is ok with working out somewhere that has pizza day? really? the "judgement free gym" casts such judgement on people who actually have worked out a long time that to me it's just stupid and I can't support a company like that. to each his own though, you're obviously free to work out where you want to. when I started at the gym the "lunks" as they so label them we call "meatheads" and they motivate me. no, I don't want to be a big vascular swollen hulk person but I could watch them and learn things that work for strength and stuff. (steroid users are obvious, so not those "cheaters" lol)

I think it's more the convenience of where it's located in relation to where we live (the one in Mobile when we got the member ship was literally walking distance across the street), and this one (dealing with 280 traffic at 6pm) is a few seconds up the road. Not to mention the price of some of the more serious gyms. I've never had the pizza, never even grabbed one of the tootsie rolls they have in that bucket. I'm there for about an hour, couldn't give two shits less about what other folks are in there doing or how serious they are about their goals. I just pay the bill to rent the nice equipment that helps me get my heart rate and testosterone up, drink a little water, and gtfo and go home. lol

Make sure if you are doing any type of "fasted" workout to have a protein shake immediately following your workout, then your oatmeal within 30-40 mins.

Cardio is really good in some cases but a heavy lift can burn more calories over time. If you can do 15-20 reps x 4 sets of 4-6 exercises super-set'ed at 30-40% of max weight for each exercise(if you can do all 4 sets of a super-set program at initial weight, increase weight next time or as you go per set), then the metabolic burn rate post workout is exponential in comparison to cardio. That being said you must train your muscles to do this by repetition and consistently increasing the challenge. Your body is way smarter and more efficient then most people realize.

What I listed above with low amounts of moderate heart rate cardio will get you further than doing high intensity cardio. The thing we want to avoid Scotty is doing such a high intensity cardio that we are actually destroying our muscle. Higher heart rate isn't always better! I had to learn the hard way.

GREAT JOB!! It takes 10 consecutive days to make a habit (that's what they say).

I prefer to save my shoulders and my back before setting that weight down nicely to not set off the alarm. When I walk into the gym the only judgement I want is called motivation! I don't want to walk in to pizza and cookies and them tell me that it's ok to be a little overweight.. If that's the case, I could spend my money on beer and go home instead of monthly at a "gym".

That being said, not knocking you @h.zack801 for going to PF, just disagree with PF policies. At least you're in there to benefit yourself and use expensive gym equipment for the low low! LOL!

I completely understand and empathize with the feeling of being ostracized at PF as a real fitness buff. I think the lunk alarm and all is a bit silly. Though, to play devil's advocate here, I see the value in a "safe place" like that. It's a gateway gym. It's easy to get self-conscious and low self esteem when you've put your health to the wayside and wake up one day realizing you're terribly overweight. And then you go to a builders' gym and all you see is "I am Ahnuld"s, just like being the only kid wearing glasses in high school (a little outdated, but you get what I mean), you feel shut out and judged. Now, I think people have lost sense of how to get the hell over that feeling, but the thing I can appreciate about PF's business is that it gives people, who would otherwise tuck tail and run for fear of being judged at the first time they try to awkwardly use the cables, a place to build on their confidence with similar people.

Could that happen at a builders' gym? Yes. Does it? I'm sure people take folks like that under their wing, so yeah. But from experience, all the guys I used to work out ever did was, "Dude, haha, look at that big bastard. He doesn't even know how to use the machine." Not saying everybody is like that, really. I know they're not. But I remember how mad I was hearing them say that instead of going to help the guy every time I walk in the gym.

Just moved to B-ham. What are the best spots in this part of the country to offroad into some "backcountry" and camp? Is there any kind of land like this out here? seems like its all campgrounds and not too many dirt roads that lead to the middle of nowhere.

    THX!

100% agree with this view! I hate people who laugh at people in the gym! If I ever am around someone like that and I hear them, I tell them straight up at least they are in here and doing something about it! The same goes for people running down the street! If you are out doing something about it, then you are already a step ahead of the rest!

Welcome! If you find middle of nowhere let me know. Closest I think you will find for dirt roads and camping might be the Talladega National Forest.

The Quaker premade oatmeal bowls where you just add water and stick them in the microwave are the best thing since sliced bread. I absolutely love them.
