Hopeful Tacoma owner, but am I priced out of the market?!

For reference I got mine in Texas for a little over $11k on the road. 2006 TRD Sport 4x4 Long Bed 199k miles but this was the cleanest truck I looked at, including ones under 50k miles... The one owner took care of it like it was his baby. Some interior parts still had plastic on them.... Dealer wanted $20k originally, then dropped it to $16k and had it for over a month when I walked in with $11k and said I'd leave with it and get it out of their hands (it was a hyundai dealer).

That being said I looked for 3-5 months and had the same issues you're having, but thought I'd let you know good deals can still be found! Don't be too scared of miles at first, have a look at them and work it out from there. Remember, these are tacoma's! 200k is not THAT many miles...

Good luck and just keep looking! :)

This is not the ideal means of getting into something, and it isn't 4x4.. but if this checks out (mechanic inspection isn't more than a couple hundred bucks), it might be worth the airfare to pick it up.

The salvage title obviously isn't ideal, but he's already come down $3k on the price, and if you could get into it for less than current asking price (very likely) then maybe it's something to consider.

If you're going to drive it into the dirt then the salvage title isn't necessarily a game changer. Check with your insurance carrier and make sure that's not a problem on their end.

I feel you I looked at tacomas for over 6 months before I pulled the trigger and got mine. Bought it in June 2016 and I didn't really need 4x4 but I wish I would have got it now. I went on a whim to a tent sale across the street from my apartment complex and they had 5 2nd gens on the lot. Most had above 80k miles and they were still pushing $30k. I wasn't interested in a limited or base model either. Turns out my buddy was a salesman for the dealer and showed me a 2012 trd sport with 30k miles listed for $34k that was just traded in two days prior and was about the hit the lot. Didn't want to spend that kinda money but got them down to $29,900. Found out dealer paid $29,500 for it so I was happy. Got pretty damn lucky I feel like especially since I didn't want a 3rd gen.
