Hi, having a problem with my airbag light on, have visually inspected everything possible, put in a new clockspring, light still on.

I know the techstream can read the codes, is there anything else that doesn't cost so much?

I don't want to take it into a shop, and don't mind buying a decent scan tool as I will be keeping this truck for the forsee able future.

Going to give this a shot tomorrow, I had read on at least one thread that the airbag light could not be read through dash, but I would be pretty pumped if it did work.

Have you done this yourself? Either way thank you, the response is much appreciated and am looking forward to trying it tomorrow.

Yes, I read an airbag code on my 2006 with this method, it worked great.

In my case, the code was for the driver's squib circuit (spiral cable) and was repaired for free under the recall . But I knew before it went in for the recall what the fault was, gave me peace of mind that I wouldn't get charged to diagnose another issue on top of the recall replacement of the spiral cable.

In case you need any other info that I did not link, I'll link the whole manual too:

I was literally looking into scan tools that were around 1k$... I just hate paying people to do the work on my truck when I can avoid it, this is a huge relief.

    Got the codes, 73, 43, 51, 53

All have "center airbag sensor assembly" in common in the trouble area.

Looks like I will either need to get it reset or buy one online used, and hopefully no more airbag light.

Sent off the computer to be re-set, in the mean time I ordered a replacement computer, or airbag ecu. The guy I bought it off (from ebay) did not speak very good english but I thought it was supposed to be a good working unit. Put it in and one code goes away. Got my unit back from being re-set and still have all four codes.

    In short:

(Both ECU have identical part #s)

My factory ECU before and after being re-set: codes 51, 53, 43, 73

Ebay ECU that is of unknown condition: 53, 43, 73

Weird to me that my ecu that was re set adds an extra code compared to the ebay unit.

Here is the problems areas for these codes:

Code 43: 1. Passenger Airbag ON/OFF Indicator (Passenger seat belt warning light assembly 2. Instrument panel wire 3. Center airbag sensor assembly

Code 51: 1. Instrument panel wire 2. Spiral cable 3. Steering pad (Driver side squib) 4. Center airbag sensor assembly

Code 53: 1. Instrument panel wire 2. Spiral cable 3. Steering pad (Driver side squib 2nd step) 4. Center airbag sensor assembly

Code 73: 1. No. 2 floor wire 2. No. 2 rear door wire (*3) 3. Front seat outer belt assembly LH (Driver side front pretensioner squib) 4. Center airbag sensor assembly
