Most vehicles made in the last 10+ years have a factory alarm. Aftermarket alarms like by Crimestopper are louder and have a few other small features. I personally don't feel that they're worth it for me.

Sounds like there's a auto-locking feature/setting that is enabled on the alarm module they installed. I would talk to your dealer about re-programming the module and disabling this setting or at least ask them what alarm system they installed and do some research on how to change the setting. My Fortin module plugs into my PC using a USB updating device. Then through the fortin software, I can change things like how long the vehicle runs until auto-shutoff... or how long to actually engage the starter, etc. I'm sure your alarm module will have some available settings as well.

I think what I got was the glass break sensor and the remote start. I'm bringing it back today to get it programmed correctly. Thanks for your help.

Find out what remote start they used. At last check Toyota does not have one specified for the 3rd gen Tacoma. Your dealer used something else, possibly the Tundra or Corolla unit.

Our dealership customers don't typically bring us a PTS toyota unless they don't have time to do them. They have some easy way to do them. I haven't been able to get my hands on one after an install to see what unit they are using. They send me Key vehicle all dam day though.. guess their techs aren't savy enough to figure them out lol

@FullMotionHT when I bought my OR in Sept I had money in hand to give the dealer for remote start. They had nothing. Seriously. That's what set me on the path of figuring one out for myself. :D

Doesn't appear his solution cuts the auto headlight wiring. If not your lights will stay on if you don't get to the truck. Not a huge deal, but a thing to consider.
    For a $170, I'll just splice.

Also curious how this unit taps the can hi/lo wires.

I don't know all the ins and outs of the remote start stuff but this system gave me what I wanted at what I feel is a fair price. I've used it for a few days now and it seems to work just like the other factory fob setups. The bonus is I can install it or completely uninstall it in 10-15 min. That alone is worth an extra $100 to me. If I'm not mistaken I can also install smart start or other add ons being that it's a dball2 device.

Do you have auto lights? Do they still turn off automatically?

The picture posted by Paul is the kit without Auto Lights, and it was before the last firmware update. The parking lights are now covered over the data stream, so in his applications, He'd literally use the OBD2 harness and the SLP wire and thats it.

In David'S applications, his Taco has Auto lights, and he already had a Smart Start in hand for the install. On his harness, he used the OBD2 harness along with 3 wires (SLP, Lock, Unlock) to hook up and the auto light interruption. He called me after he was done with the install so I could get his Smart Start set up for him and it didn't take him very long to do the install. All the kits now include the new harness.

We solder all of our wires at the shop. We include the t-taps and connectors on the wires in the event someone doesn't know how to solder or doesn't have access to the equipment. If they do, great... chop off the connectors and solder the wires. Either way, everything needed is included.

Heres the road map to the number of vehicle wires you will have to splice into for your specific application:

Vehicle w/out auto lights > T-harness and ONE wire

Vehicle with auto lights > T-Harness and TWO wires

Vehicle w/out auto lights & Smart Start > T-harness and THREE wires

Vehicle with auto lights and Smart Start > T-Harness and FOUR wires

It was an audiovox remote start and glass break/ shock sensor. The way the installer explained it to me was that the aftermarket remote start was in conflict with the factory alarm. He said he had to "hard wire" the remote start into the vehicle and not do a data link. Whatever he did, heveything works now. No more auto alarm or door lock upon exiting vehicle.

My opinion: solder >> positap >> military splice >> T-tap

I won't use an in-line tap. T-Tap or positap need to be the correct size, which is 24-26ga for these wires.

got this as a Christmas gift. Extremely easy install. I know KB Voodoo has received some bashing for making a business out of this, but I appreciate the ability to buy something pre-packaged as I would rather save my own time.

I installed mine using positaps with good luck. I know Toyota uses t-taps when doing "port installed" items. I noticed those on my "port installed" led bed lights as I was installing my remote start kit

Install complete - finally. Had to wait a few weeks for a break in the weather. Super easy installation with zero issues. I went the "trim and solder" route and it all worked out well. Thanks again guys!!
