Manual Locking Hub Conversion Kit for Toyota:

    05-17 Tacoma
    03-17 4Runner
    07-14 FJ Cruiser

Hi Tacoma World! Im fairly new to the site and would like to share what I've been working on for the past few years. I hope some could find this beneficial. I designed a complete manual locking hub conversion using genuine Toyota parts for a direct bolt in application.

    The kit consists of:

    2 - CV shaft assemblies
    2 - Hub/bearing assemblies
    2 - Dust seal spacers
    2 - Dust seals
1 - Set of Warn Locking Hubs
    1 - Hardware bag

I had installed the first kit on my 2014 Toyota 4Runner 4x4 a few years ago. The the front drivetrain and suspension is also similar to that of the Tacoma and FJ Cruiser. I had noticed a difference in gas mileage, better brake response and less wear and tear on the front drivetrain parts while in 2WD. To use the 4WD, you would need to get out of the vehicle and engage the hubs manually. Right now i have 1 complete kit, 2 currently being assembled and am also currently working on the next big order. If you have any questions, id be glad to try and answer them to the best of my knowledge and expertise. Thank you for looking!FullSizeRender.jpg

Curious to know if the parts are off the shelf or custom designed or what.

EDITED: Found more details in another thread I've linked to below.

What're the benefits to this as opposed to leaving it stock?

Our vehicles (Tacoma, 4R, Sequioa, Tundra, FJ, Landcruisers) all spin the front axles all the time. This saps fuel efficiency and creates wear on whatever is spinning.

Older 4x4 vehicles traditionally used "Manual Hub Disconnects" to "unlock" the axles from the hubs, so your front wheels could spin "free" without spinning axles, cvs, diffs, etc.

For example on my Tundra (4.7l 4x4) I'm convinced that the 2wd models gets better MPG (by 1-2 mpg) than my 4x4 simply because I'm always turning axles.

The theory (which I do subscribe to) is that as the front wheels are always locked, the front axel us always working and applying wear and resistance while driving. If the front hubs could be unlocked a spin the front wheels freely, the front diff would not have to always be in motion. Again, in THEORY, the lower resistance should increase gas mileage and reduce wear and tear as the front diff would only be working when the hubs are locked.

IF there was an affordable, and reliable, option for my 2012, I would be all over it.

So even when my 4 wheel drive isn't engaged the axel is still locked?

Breakdown for the kit is. Mostly bolt on Toyota onparts. The hurdle is getting an outer cv joint that is spline to fit into the manual hun disconnect. Poster does this by custom inner shafts. He is really busy but can try Pm him.

Thanks for the in-depth response. That makes a whole lot of sense, so I can see why someone would want this for our trucks.

I've spoken with him a lot and he said he has a couple stock kits for sale.
