So this is actually on my 1998 4Runner. I had the heads replaced last year but there is still a noise at certain RPMs. From what I can figure out its called "valve chatter". Any help in this matter on how to fix it? It only happens when I'm accelerating at about 2500 RPMs usually up a steeper grade.

Put some high octane in there and see if it goes away.
Check your MAF sensor. It's easy to clean and will cause pinging. Does it sound like a coffee grinder coming from the engine?

EDIT***Sorry just realized this was months old :)

It's fine! It still makes the noise. I already run 93 octane through it. I'll check the MAF sensor. Umm not so much coffee...eh maybe a little. More like boiling water popping in a pipe.

To be honest it kind of sounds like your car is pinging. A high pitch noise kind of a jittery noise. I just had my heads done. Were they both the same age? That could of happened because the heads weren't the same age. That would lead to a kind of 'harmonic' vibration leading to other noises. If it isn't that i'd check the fuel filter/get high octane fuel from a different spot.

Your car may be running too lean. You can ask your mechanic to drive your car, and graph the MAF data. Usually they can adjust the settings depending on how much gas the car is injecting. Mine was running too lean. 100 dollars later it's all fixed, and no more pinging

I was kinda thinking about that it might be running lean too. Thanks for the input, I'll give that a try!
