Hows it going everybody I just got a 2014 PreRunner that I love, but won't have the money to pay off as school is not cheap. I found a dealership that has a 2001 4X4 double cab Tacoma w/ 170,000miles for $16000, which is about half the price that I'm financing my truck for now. Would the switch be worth it? I know theres frame issues that could be there and everything that comes with older trucks. Any input would be greatly appreciated. I really dig the punchy look of the DC 1st gen though...

16K for a 16 year old truck with 170K miles on it seems insanely high. KBB lists the private party value as $8246 for a Tacoma of this year and mileage.

Yeah. That's expensive for a 2001. But not unheard of w/ 170,000 miles. My buddy sold his 2003 DCSB 3.4 V6 4x4 for $12,500 w/ 202,000 miles on it! Just depends the area. KBB has nothing to do with it, when the right person wants it.

Not as many as I'd like...
I have an 01 Double Cab with 165xxx and like it quite a bit but I'd say about 11 to 12k is what it's worth here in MO.

Im pretty game to get it. 1st gens really are more suited for me. Tacomas are super sought after in Hawaii. I was thinking 9-13k is my offer range. I still have to sell my truck back to the dealer though

Remember, a vehicle is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it. KBB and others that give values for vehicles, are just estimations. Someone may find that truck worth 16k to them, I prolly wouldn't, but that doesn't matter. If you can be patient and take time, you'll likely be able to find a good value on a first gen. Hard to do that when you rush into finding a vehicle. Many bad decisions with purchases come because the buyer, for whatever reason, rushes into a purchase without the full info. Make sure to do your homework on the first gen, or anything you're looking to buy. Internet forums are a treasure of info.

I paid 15.5k for my 2004 DC 4x4 TRD with 74k miles in good condition. That price is wayyyyyy high
