There is also Big Bend State RANCH. Much more isolated that the state park AND more less maintained roads. I spent a week out there and didn't see a soul.

Yeah, well was just a suggestion. You are in or near the college station area... Not like salt lake or Albuquerque.

    Guadalupe National Park is great, wouldn't say off the grid but a cool spot.IMG_20161128_161849.jpg IMG_20161130_205537.jpg 20161123_174706_001.jpg DSCF1412.jpg DSCF1435.jpg IMG_6979-1.jpg

    Great shots Dango!

You can backcountry camp in GMNP for a true off grid experience. Dog Canyon is a less traveled area if you're looking for more isolation but it's harder to get to than the main entry near Guadalupe Peak. I went in there on Thanksgiving a few years back and backpacked for three days. Only saw two other people, and they were hiking together.

Been there over the 4th of July twice now, both times staying up on Guadalupe Peak to see if there's any fireworks going on as it gets dark... no luck yet on that!

I second PINS. Definitely a unique area. Watch tide height and times. Ran to MM20 in 2wd with no problem.

We spent a weekend at Lincoln NF outside Carlsbad NM.
    Defiantly worth the drive.
Dispersed camping, hiking, and 4x4 roads.

Get the NF map and find Park Road 540 go to the end then take the trail in the center (9553) and go to the end.
Plenty of camping spots along this 4x4 trail. We went to the end then turned around a came back to a great camping spot.
We only saw 1 other truck on PR 540.

To get to another good 4x4 road go to Sitting Bull Falls and check it out.
After leaving the falls start looking for a gravel road to the right. (not sure it had a #) it is a mile or 2 from the falls.
We drove it for a couple miles but turned around because we were on a schedule and form the top it looked like it went on forever.
A Ram Power Wagon saw us turn onto this road and decided to follow us at a distance.
While going back to the paved road I found where apparently the Ram was spinning trying to get up a hill and decided to turn around or backed down.

Was at BBNP and BBRSP over New Years. Took the dog and had no issues. Drove some offroad trails and enjoyed the desolation! Started in the National Park and ended in the State Park. Good times!

Having lived in Colorado and New Mexico for 6 years and coming back to Texas in 2010 (I'm a native), I miss the massive amounts of BLM land in those states. Just got back from a week in Moab as well. Amazing.

For such a big state we dont have much public land. Big bend is the closest and it's a really long drive. Southeastern Oklahoma is your best bet IMO. Not much of it is very well documented, but there's a lot of off road driving/over landing options.

    Try the k-trail near Clayton.
    https://habitatoffroad.com/blogs/tr...michi-trail-clayton-oklahoma-to-mena-arkansas

Or the national Forest near Billy Creek.
    https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/ouachita/recarea/?recid=11595

Also some nice spots around the Ouachita district and other recreation lands surrounding Broken Bow Lake. Just be sure to stay away during hunting season.

I own land in Pittsburgh, OK and use that as a Basecamp and let friends dry camp there in exchange for helping clear/build out the camp site. It's about 10 minutes from Burris Valley Ranch on the same road. PM and I'll be happy to share more info.

FYI, the Magellan TRX app is decent at showing National Forest Service roads or trails that others have logged. I use it to scope out my routes and then the ViewRanger app for off-line maps and data logging.

Below is a screenshot of the Magellan app with the Choctaw Nation Trail to give you a good idea where to start. Pros for the western/Oklahoma side of the Ouachita range are that it's less busy than the Arkansas side and closer to DFW. Cons are that trails can get overgrown more often and it's not as well documented - especially over where my land is.

You'll see in the app that nothing in McGee Creek, Stringtown, and Atoka WMAs and public hunting areas shows up on this map. However, LOTS of stuff to explore there.
