Lets clear the "air" about "OTD"

A back step for when I get older, Carhartt seatcovers, 4Runner wheels, Topper, and "tats all folks"! --for now!!
This whole forum is about a new generation of vehicles Correct? all less than 2 years old? Correct?
Most all of us want to know if we paid or will pay, or can negotiate a better deal.
All of the talk of the "OTD" price is mostly bogus.
Why can we all tell only the price we paid for the truck?
Leave out everything but the price of the truck.
NO dealer fees --these are dealer profit and can vary wildly (I got stuck with a $75 fee)
"TTL" totally depends on where you live and or where you bought the truck
Most every state is DIFFERENT, and within each state you may have different taxing/licensing laws, depending on the county and/or the city.
Including TTL means nothing to someone who is NOT IN your exact location and bought at the exact time you did from the same dealer and the exact vehicle.
Leave out any finance charges as well--we all know they can vary with interest rates as well as the length of the loan. (GOD forbid a 7yr loan)
The one thing that is (almost) constant here is the prices of the trucks and the factory delivery charges
Here is the plan: Just put what you paid for the truck =+ delivery (I think there is only 2 prices for this depending on the place in the US where it was dropped off the truck)
Tell all the model and what options were on the FACTORY STICKER. Dealer add-on stickers have no need here either as the stuff they add can be all over the place as far as the quality of the stuff they add!!
My "plan" will give others a much more accurate view of what people are paying for any given model of truck!
I bet this will clear the "air"

You forgot the most important and profitable part of car sales: the trade. I paid sticker and got 1500 more for my trade than it was worth. Good deal.

That alone will cause confusion. A dealer with a $600 fee may go lower on the truck price than a dealer without the fee.

Where are people paying finance charges up front?

Yes, break TTL away from the figure since that will vary by locale, so posting your OTD number is worthless to anyone not living where you do. But negotiate on OTD to ensure you capture whatever fees the dealer will try to hide in there. Bottom line numbers are what you agreed to or they aren't.

But thats not OTD. OTD is literally what it took to get the car out the door, including all those fees and what not-- the bottom line on the paper. What you are essentially asking for is negotiated price and can call it whatever you like, but its not OTD.

OTD means every penny you spent to roll the truck off the lot. Taxes fees etc. I've never used the term any other way.

OTD terminology works well for a individual (me included --I used that term at the dealer) when he is getting down to the final haggling with a dealer. NOT when describing what "they" paid for given truck to others -in many different locations!

It's near impossible to compare. In my case the "truck price" we agreed prior to ordering was $1K under MSRP. I accepted that because they gave me a very generous trade. At that time, a October 2015 order, the trucks were a hot commodity so I felt good about it.

Edit: I typically shoot for KBB excellent trade value and, if I get that, I am happy with $300 over invoice for the new vehicle.

I did not forget it --To me it is not part of the deal -- I had the dealer look at my previous truck -- they offered me 2.5K less than I sold it for-- to a person 2 wks later. Dealers make average of 2.5-3.5K on trade-ins --THAT IS A FACT!
I will pay almost 3k under sticker when my truck gets here I will know EXACTLY what my TOTAL price is!

That's fine --from a individuals standpoint-- not for "comparison" across a wide viewing audience where the above mentioned factors can and do change.

I estimate i sold 1000 new cars. You are smart. Most people arent and the trade is where all the money is made. "I got my truck 1k under invoice!!!" But they take 4k less than acv on their trade.

Adding in the trade variable just makes it even more nebulous. Dealers can really move numbers around with a trade and make you feel like you got a great deal when after it all washes out you maybe only got a mediocre deal. Every deal needs to be analyzed individually. Learned a lot watching my old man sell used cars, work his way up to GM and then owner of a Ford dealership.

You are "preaching to the choir" --I agree with you --It is a good term to use and work with when you are dealing with dealers!
NOT when describing what you paid for the vehicle to others in different places where taxing/financing/fees may be different.

Correct --you got it -- so comparing your OTD to somebody elses OTD in another state. is bogus and not a good comparison at all!
