    Tacoma Drivers,

I own a 2011 DC SB TRD OR with a little more than 75,000. My driving is about 70% on road and 30% off road. Off road consist of rough dirt roads, rocky roads, and an occasional large rock/bolder to negotiate, usually done at low speeds. Lots of up and down hills, I live in Colorado.

I'm asking the following question due to being an old school, preventive maintenance, kinda guy; example, 70,000-90,000 miles was the norm for replacing wheel bearing and ball joints.

So, in today's world, armed with the above info, what mileage milestone should I expect to be replacing front wheel bearings and ball joints to prevent unexpected failure?

    Thanks
    Bob

It's still hard to say. One bad pothole and, bam. Best thing to do is check them when you rotate your tires and/or replace your brakes. I think the guy with the 600K Taco has not changed his. I'm on my third set on driver-side, and about to install third set on passenger side.

I wouldnt replace them untill they started to show signs of wear. An even then i would buy oem or the best i could find to replace them with. Due to the fact that you may end up replacing them with a sub par product and run into issues with them alot sooner then you would if u had just left the oem alone. Jmo

Also will add i have owned 3 2nd gens. Including the one i have now. An ran 33s on all 3 and put them through the test and have yet to have a ball joint or wheel bearing fail. My 06 had over 100k on it. An my 2011 had 130k on it and my 2015 has 23k.
I have however had to replace some wheel bearings and ball joints on my old toyota pickups but most of them had 200k plus miles before i touched them. An when they went out it wasnt a guessing game i knew exactly when they went out. Drove them home. Replaced them and kept trucking.

In my case, I off-road and that beats up bearings and ball joints, and bushings. Right now, I'm in need of bushings. I hit a curb hard once and that damaged my driver-side bearing. Replaced bearings on both sides with aftermarket bearing (Precision) on original hubs. On driver-side I replaced BJ as preventive and turned out it didn't need replacing. That was at 100K. After several off-roading excursions, replaced driver-side wheel bearing (Dura) and hub (Dorman) at 128K. Now, at 150K, pass side wheel bearing needs replacing. Have Dura hub and bearing sitting on my workbench ready for installing. I have it down to a science now, pressing my own hubs and installing them myself.
