Because nobody smart is working at a tire shop for $10 an hour when a full time job there won't even afford them a studio apartment.

Tire shops are largely burnout adults, high school grads just entering into the work force or people in between who don't aspire to do anything.

The day you have high caliber tire monkeys is the day your tires go from $200 each to $350 because the doors won't otherwise stay open.

    Check into reality.

Well, to wrap this up so many weeks later... (been working like a dog)

This is the scratched/gouged rim. Mostly around the lug holes, but there is one nice one up high in the left corner of the pic.

Full shot: (reflections in sunlight make it looked scratched, but there's nothing there - looks like a brand-new rim)

I'm happy with the result. I really don't know how they did it, but there are no signs of gouges/scratches. It took them 2 days to do the job one to re-finish it and another to put a clear-coat on). I just drove around with my spare on. No biggie. When I got my wheel back I was all stoked to be done with the whole ordeal and then noticed they discarded the silver aluminum valve cap that was on it when I turned it in and put a black plastic one on. I pretty much lost it at that point. I told the guy to give me $5 for some new metal caps and I was taking my wheel and never coming back. He did. I'm not going back.

Careful with those aluminum caps. They will rust/seize onto your valve stems then they are fucked and you have to replace the stems. Better off sticking with the plastic caps.

The ones I have actually have a plastic lining. No metal to metal contact.
