So I may have narrowed down my choices to a silver SR5 with Nav that has 29K on it orrrrr
There is a trail edition with 46K on it for the same price $29000

Ive been researching to death on the other forum but i cant post over there yet.

Here's the kicker, I don't know if the trail has KDSS. Ive checked some comps that know there is KDSS and the price is around $32-33K

I don't really want to ask/bring it to the dealerships attention just incase. The truck is roughly an hour and a half from me so i dont necessarily want to waste my time.

I also dont really know if i will really need all the electronic gadgetry in the trail.

some sand trails and beach driving is all this will see aside from new england winters.

Thoughts on whether the trail is worth it with that many miles vs an SR5 with 20k less miles?

The TE is a pretty great vehicle, and I love my 2014.

The only real difference is the locker. I don't really consider the other 4Lo electronic stuff to be much of a consideration in deciding.

Having said that, with your planned use in mind, I'd opt for the SR5. 20k miles is a year, maybe more, of driving, so all other things being equal, the longevity of the SR5 should be greater than that of the TE, and it sounds like you aren't going to be doing anything requiring a locker anyway.

Get the SR5, you will be very happy. I never used my rear locker on my off road Tacoma, so I went with a SR5 when I upgraded to a 4Runner. Honestly, ATRAC is huge for me, and the SR5 has ATRAC. I have been through some pretty nasty stuff in my SR5 4Runner using ATRAC and 4L.

I'd do the trail. The extra offroad features are worth it, even if it doesnt have KDSS(my preference)

I'm looking at getting the TRD Pro or TRD Off Road mid 2018. Whether it's a 17 or 18 really depends on what engine and tranny they put in the redesign. If it's the same as the new Tacoma I'm searching for a 17.

I had a few 4runners ... manual transfer shift is standard on both . All depends on your budget , I had a TRD pro last year and it got hit and was totaled .
I found a replacement Pro but they must have been smoking crack when they sent me the quote for 56k for a 2016 pro ... LOL
I ended up picking up a 2016 Trail Premium with KDSS for 39.5 in the black metallic . I said I would never get a black truck again and here I am ... LOL
I think plain Jane Trails in my area were 36k just don't get the all wheel drive model .

if i were to go for it, i would get the trail. along with what others have posted, i actually like the mechanical transfer case of the trail over the turn switch of the SR5

I got the SR5 Premium because the dealership offered a sweet deal on it. If I were to do it again it would be a Trail Premium without KDSS. Only because they come factory with that faux hood scoop and e-locker. I would not consider a TRD Pro or Trail w/ KDSS unless it was a killer deal. I added the TRD Pro cosmetics and an ARB locker. Like the fact that the ARB unit makes the diff stronger as it is fully machined vs oem cast. I can keep up with anything but the extreme rock crawlers. I don't have the multi-terrain feature like the Trails but I have had zero troubles going through loose sand, mud or rock. I can venture further down the narlier trails over the Pros because they don't want to risk scratching their paint. lol.
