wiring aux back up lights need help

is a really good thread on wiring reverse lights. Post has a similar wiring diagram to the one posted above. Post is a wiring diagram that allows you to switch between auto-on (with reverse lights) and manual-on.

I tried this, (hooked the backup lights to my aug lights with a switch to turn on at any time) & after I completed it, it worked fine, but then my check engine light came on. I'm thinking its due to being tied into the transmission wiring. So I disconnected the wiring & reset it to get rid of the check engine light. Now, I see a diagram in this thread that shows how to do this but I think this is for a 2nd gen. Has anyone done this on the 1st gen & had a switch that can turn it on when you want to? Thanks.

Yep, the check engine light is because the computer sees excessive amp draw.

Yea, that's what I kinda thought. At least I got it reset. Wow, I was thinking I had messed up a computer or something. I'm going to check on those other threads & give it another try. Thanks alot guys!
