I am new here and I have owned my Tacoma 4X4 TRD since 2006. Last week I was in Colorado with my family and a deer ran out in front of me on the highway causing damage to the grill, bumper, radiator and transmission cooler. The truck is in a body shop and should be fixed in 2 to 3 weeks. Lucky no one was injured except for the deer.

I have been searching for a plate bumper and brush guard to replace the stock bumper. I live in AZ and we have Elk and deer in the high country. I do not want to go through another incident hitting an animal in the road and have the truck disabled.

My Tacoma is stock, no suspension mods or anything. Any suggestions from anyone who has purchased a plate bumper, sources, aluminum vs steel, suspension mods, etc?

    welcome to TW!

and as far as plate bumpers in regards to protection against animals. keep in mind that a plate bumper could potentially transfer the energy from impact into your frame instead of absorbing it and could cause more serious damage. depending on the impact any ways. if your looking for a little more protection I would recommend the following:

    http://www.avidoffroad.com/cart/ind...r-guard/toyota-tacoma-front-bumper-guard.html

it works with the skid plate too if you have one.

heres a link to the discount code assuming its still valid, shoot hi a pm to find out, and maybe let me know if its still good haha I'm planning on getting one in the for see able future.

Go with the bumper guard if you like them, but you may want to do some research on them. I've heard from some members that the bumper guards caused unnecessary damage to their truck in light accidents. I don't know first hand though, so maybe someone who knows can chime in...

haven't heard any bad things about the Avid while I did some mild research but I do agree that a cheapy one could also cause some damage if it wasn't built to withstand any impact. the way it mounts to the truck would be a key factor. cute little brackets aren't going to hold up well. doing research is definitely important, and there is lots of threads on here about bumper bars and bull bars and just about anything else one needs to know.

    Welcome!

I went with an aluminum plate bumper at save on weight. Steel for the rear as I wanted the hidden hitch.

Thanks everyone for the advice and welcome. Fortunately the air bags did not deploy and the cost to fix the front end damage was close to $7K. Probably would have been totaled if the bags went off. I should be able to pick up my truck in a few more weeks. :)

Damn, I did not realize how much I miss that truck. Going to call Tiffany at DeMello with I get it back.
