Adaptive cruise control

The problem is the weight variable with a utility vehicle. Toyota has been really slow to bring in pre-collission detection and adaptive cruise control to their vehicles. The Sienna's system was expensive and worthless. The new system is camera/radar.

A truck has the issue that it may be towing its own weight behind it, and it could be extremely unpredictable while braking.

That said the new trucks will put themselves automatically into tow/haul mode when the 7 pin is plugged in.

 

The Corolllas actually have crazy powerful LED headlights like an Acura and automatic highbeams now! Lane departure with steering assist as well!

The Corolla iM has power folding mirrors but no LED, just projectors

 

this is how we ended up putting the Mrs. in a CRV vs. a RAV4. Toyota's slacking on the dash stuff and really all around. Hell, their in dash navigation looks like something from the 90's.

Toyota is far from the leading brand for technology, that's ford and the luxury german brands. Toyota is conservative, part of their QDR, Lexus if anything has the most up to date technology. Not to mention your buying a midsize truck. If you want all that then go full size, Toyota knows its market and the Tacoma buyer they don't need adaptive cruise control. My 15 was MSRP of $35k and I paid $32k and got a lot less than my 17.

 

Agreed. Very conservative. Look at the instrument cluster on the 2015 Tacomas. Look at the radio on a 2012 Rav4. Except for bluetooth, not a heck of a lot different from my old 2002 4Runner.

*shrug* If wishes were fishes. Ya buy a vehicle you take the good with the bad and choose which overall best suits you needs.

Me, never had any desire for adaptive cruise. Wouldn't do a thing for me. I'm sure it's a big deal for other with different driving needs, and perhaps a different vehicle would be the better match to their needs.

 

I care about NONE Of this stuff. These are the exact types of options that have made the Silverado 1/2 ton a $60K truck. Kudos to Toyota for letting us get all of the best offroad capabilities with a minimal amount of car stuff. Maybe put all this stuff on a Limited or something, but TRD 4x4 OR with no Tech Package is perfect for me.

That's what they will most likely will do -- but even if it is on the vehicle -- YOU DO have the option to NOT use it!! That's the way it is on the Subies

 

Indeed. Saw a carolla with what looked like Stock LED headlights today.

 

I give Kudos to Toyota for keeping a Manual Trans, that is one of the reasons they get my money!

 

Sure it would be nice but admittedly the third gen is still a pretty big step up from the second gen. When I bought my wife's 16 Rav4, I was pretty envious of her adaptive cruise until I used it on a few different road trips. For me it was actually a bit of a nuisance. So...there is my unsolicited opinion.

 

I can't help but think that people who love all the adaptive cruise, lane departure, auto braking stuff just really hate driving. Call Uber and stop adding bullshit to your car so you can do something else while driving. Just do something else.

 

I will admit that I am envious of the LED headlights.

 

I'll say this once -- Don't knock it till you have experienced it -- especially the ACC. We all hope we do not need the forward collision prevention. There was a guy here the other day or so who crashed his Quicksand Taco into the back of a F150, --I would venture a STRONG guess the Collision prevention system on a Newish Subaru would have prevented that crash, or in the least, lessened the severity. For sure if he was doing less than 35mph!

 

LED lights are pretty nice. have them on my civic and they are great for the dark roads getting to our house.

 

You and me both, brother. I came back to Toyota (with a manual Transmission) after 20 years of Chevy because GMs prices have skyrocketed with the addition of this type of technology. VSC is bad enough. I really wish it just had an old-school limited slip in the rear and the e-locker for when you need it in 4-LO. Hell, I would've deleted the electronic 4WD and opted for a manual transfer case if it were an option.

 

one thing a lot of people don't consider when getting a vehicle with adaptive cruise control is the cost of the system when you need to do an alignment or if the bumper comes off or something. AFAIK alignments will affect how the computer reads the data, and if you take off the bumper it throws off the alignment of the radar head. It'd be nice, I admit, but I wouldn't want to pay for a day long alignment.

 

not to mention more tech like that means less things you can fix yourself.
