So I just did all of this work to install a 2ch amp and component front speakers. I wanted to keep my stock headunit. When I was buttoning everything up I did it with the music playing through the new speakers, so i would know if I lost a connection while I was putting the door panels back on.

While installing the driver side door panels I heard a pop from the front left side speakers, and they went dead. I have confirmed with a multimeter that I have NO SIGNAL to the front left drivers side door. ALL connections have been checked (high level inputs to amp, speaker connection, etc) and they are all good.

Is it possible I blew a channel on the headunit? Has anyone ever done that? I tried searching and found nothing. I'm honestly sick to my stomach right now because I invested almost 2 days in this project and it blew up in my face while I was putting it back together. If a channel on the headunit blew I'm really going to be upset. I did all of this work so I could keep the factory headunit.

    Please help...

Check the fuses on the amp and headunit fuse.

Yeah I know. It wasn't the best idea. Unfortunately hindsight is 20/20.

So if the terminals touched the door and shorted the channel on the HU (remember it is the stock HU), is the HU toast?

Agreed 100% I'm the same way. Especially when a stock headunit is $$$$$$$$

I have no voltage on that channel at all - just checked.

Quick update if anyone is interested.

I haven't pulled the dash yet to inspect the innards of the HU, but I did find a bandaid solution. Instead of tapping into the front left channel for the high-level input for the amp, I used the rear left channel. It's working, and definitely confirms I FUBARed the front left channel on my HU (dammit). Honestly I cannot hear a difference in sound. Obviously my fader controls on the HU will no longer work properly but that doesn't bother me. I'll probably run it like this until I can afford a new HU that will still allow my steering wheel controls, BT mic, etc.

Stock rear speakers are still in there for now.

Question - anyone know if there is a difference in signal from the HU to the front versus to the rear speakers? I do notice a slight dip in sound quality when I tap the rear speaker signal versus the front speaker signal (speaker-level inputs to a 2ch amp).
