My friend's take on it is that since the aftermarket parts are put by the factory they are covered under the factory warranty for however long it is.

I have a PRO and its awesome. I've had 2 other Tacomas. I loved both, but like this one the best. And I've owned two other domestic trucks that sucked...but it's not really a fair comparison because my Chevy and Ford trucks were in the '80's and '90's. They were cheap, and drove like it. Absolute pieces of junk. I'm sure Ford and Chevy are better now...at least I'd hope so.

I was on the fence but decided to go with the TRD Off Road 4x4. The biggest want for me was the crawl control and terrain select. I knew I would be doing after market mods and thought it would be best to save off the MSRP. Needless to say my truck is going in in about 8-10 weeks for full Total Chaos long travel. Just waiting on the Pelfreybilt bumpers to have everything done in one shot.

Hey guys, something even crazier, saw a Colorado Boss or whatever the hell they call it for 49,500 (had duramax), so what the hell price will the ZR2 be, $55k? And these are sticker not marked up.
I was/am between Tacoma /Colorado Duramax only because of my towing needs , but off road as well thus the ZR2 consideration, until I see they derate towing from 7700 down to 5000. Have an issue with the Colorado cheap interior & stupid rear end stance as well. Like Midsize trucks, thus my dilemma.

For that price you can get a 2500 Duramax. These midsize prices are getting out of control.

Melvin (autocorrect renamed you, not me) nailed it. Make sure you're looking for a "midsized" truck. Tacoma/Colorado may not be what you're looking for.

Unfortunately am a "wheeler", 4wd needs put full size out as they are too big for off roading. Guess I need a slightly lighter travel trailer if go Tacoma route. Fighting the full size route .

Custom built trailer? Just an idea. No idea what the cost might be?

I decided and now a proud owner of a 2017 MGM TRD Off Road. I decided no matter which I got I was likely gonna upgrade the suspension and wheel components on a PRO anyway. Got a Moonroof. Got the JBL stereo upgrade which sounds good enough for me. I figured cutting a hole in the roof of a Pro will be more expensive and just wrong. I'm very happy with my choice. :)

Totally worth it for me but really it depends on what you like, or plan to do with your truck. If you plan to lift your truck, not worth the cost of a Pro. If you plan to make a standard TRD or 4X4 look like a Pro, it will cost you more $ to make the full appearance/performance package than just buying a Pro. In my case you can only get the Cement color option in a Pro. The good thing is Toyota gives you several options to choose from so you can spend after market dollars where you want/need to build out a truck that best meets your taste and needs.

Ran into a 16 Cement Pro fueling up this morning. Cool truck. The Cement is stellar. I said that color is the only reason to get the Pro. He agreed 100%. He also seems to know these trucks and I could tell he wasn't into lifting a OR as he traded his 16 OR for the Pro. If you figure the mild Fox lift, TRD wheels, and Sport hood then it might be worth getting the Cement. Otherwise, I'd lift an OR instead and save a few grand. Oh and the TRD PRO side badge under the side mirrors looked like ass. :)

    I'll say it again.
    Pro is about economics too.
It costs more, but is fully warranted, and will return a higher return at resale (likely higher percentage than an OR given its limited release...)

OR is cheaper with more room for negotiation, leaving savings that can roll into modifications, but you'll likely not get $ back on those. That's an important factor.

I'm pretty frugal when it comes to purchases like this and was never even considering the Pro. Hell, the crawl control was the only reason I didn't go with an SR5 lol

I was able to get my OR for just under $34k and the dealer had a $41k and a $43k pro in the showroom that I'm sure they were asking firm prices.

The 7-8k less I paid will cover tires (already done), skids, sliders, bed cap, and (maybe) upgraded shocks down the road all with hypothetical money in my pocket.

I plan on keeping this truck for at least the next 5 years, so I'm not terribly worried about resale.

I think if your going to buy a truck and not touch it then go with a pro if you want to modify it than get an off-road I would think resale would also be better with the Pro. But I have a 2015 Sport so in the words of the great and powerful OZ "pay no attention to that man behind the curtain"

Possibly. But for amounts paid for the Pro vs a OR with some mod's trade in should still be within reason. With that said, something comes to mind. If you plan to sell your modded OR (any vehicle for that matter) you better sell private party vs taking a hit in the nut sak by trading. I've sold 2 vehicles private this year alone and I received well over retail vs a crap trade in value. I've also seen guys getting back their cost in mods by selling private.

Absolutely- however, it's not been my experience in recovering costs of modifications. People see that edmunds, truecar, kbb- and that's what they pay.
