Sound appears to have gone away...here's hoping that did the trick.

I pushed on the pillar as well and it helped for day and a half now. If that doesn't solve it i'll try some felt/padding where the other thread mentioned to try.

    OK here is an update-

Took it back in to dealer this morning; cover FINALLY came in. They used felt tape and neoprene tape around the cover adjacent to pillar, and down between speaker bracket and pillar. Made a legitimate effort. Only been 7 hours I know, but it used to rattle non-stop, and now so far nothing. I'll update in a few days. One thing I wish I had done, I forgot to take a picture....

Mine does this too!!!! It's driving me nuts and the dealership is not helpful at all..... This, with all the other problems I have had in the first 10K, is telling me to sell this POS before it falls apart. I saved for years for this truck and have had buyers remorse since 2k. If they can't fix it today.... I am gonna sell this truck.... So disappointed in Toyota.

Took mine to Toyota and they had it for 4 days.

Added padding and still could not fix it. I am hopeless as this is my sole issue with this 3rd gen.

I joined TW because I needed to know that someone else had this same issue. In my 2016 DCSB 4X4 the noise sounded like the dash speaker on passenger side rattling. Same issue as many of you, took it to the dealer (50 miles away) multiple times and they "could not reproduce" the noise. Frustrated, I started taking the dash apart to find the issue myself and solved my problem and hopefully many of yours as well. When I took off the passenger side kick panel off I found the issue. The photos are not the best but where the 2 wiring harnesses go into the body there is a white plastic piece that I assumes "pads" the hole in the body so as to not damage the wires. That plastic piece was rattling against the metal causing the sound that drove me crazy for 12 months. I hope this helps some of you solve your problems with this aggravating problem.

Okay but wouldn't you like it to go away completely.

I'm going to try the kick panel thing and see if it works.

Did the kick panel fix and still have the rattle/tapping.

O wells I'll just have to wait until some other tips come out.

    Thanks anyways.

If you DO NOT have the tech package with auto dimming headlights, I found the plug in the passenger speaker cover (where the light sensor would go with the tech package) to have lots of wiggle room. It's just a cheap plug in there. I pulled the speaker cover and secured that plug from beneath with tiny pieces of tape. Stopped that rattle. Perhaps you could check that? Good luck.

I apologize Jukeboxx, Im just now seeing this question. Glad you figured it out, unfortunately mine started again about 5 days after I "fixed" it. Doesn't seem to be as bad as before but I guess its back to the drawing board.

Thanks Silver, I tried that one first. I thought sure I had it fixed with the dashboard removal. Its a dang frustrating problem

I squirted some DuPont Teflon Multi-Use Lubricant between my a pillar and dash and it helped with the tapping sound.

Welp winter is upon us here in TN and I have discovered the most annoying sound in the world. One quick search and I see that I'm not the only one. I'll attempt to fix this over the weekend and report back for the sake of others.

I dont know why this is marked SOLVED.
this thread indicates the same noise is like 10 different issues.

So I just discovered I have this sound in my 17' TRD OR w/ premium & tech package.

What is the solution? Thread is marked as solved, but I still see experiments, trials and conjecture?

    Toothpicks? velcro? lubricant? business cards?

Issue was probably solved for OP. Try something you just mentioned and report back. Nothing wrong with contribution. Don't make the transition from lurker to leech...
