God this seems WAY overly complicated

You could get the same effect with some simply rifling of the inner bore of the main cylinder and a slight change of valving rather than having a bunch of parts clacking together and extra moving parts to break.

Isn't that basically, and I mean on a very basic level, as installing Fox 2.0 bumpstops to go along side your Fox/King/Whoever Coilovers? I agree, this seems complicated and the last thing you want is for something inside the shock to fail and cause catastrophic damage to the shock.

That rear 8100 though could be a game changer if it's priced right. No one is really making a bolt on bypass rear shock for the Tacoma right now. You usually have to custom order that and the prices are crazy.

Kind of annoying seeing as how one of the reasons 95% of people buy new coilovers is for lift and they still put the 2 1/2" setting at the highest preload/ stiffest ride.

But really... stock shock mounting locations should not be considered for a fancy bypass shock... Theres no point as you just cant get travel out of the stock shock mounting point in the rear. Do it right with a 12in stroked shock n a relocation bracket. Or further up into the bed. Especially considering you could likely get a 12in remote resi 2.0in body shock for the rear, bamf relocation brackets for less than the cost of the bilstein units that MIGHT have 9.5in of travel.

I thought bypass shocks were for feel and had nothing to do with travel unless we were considering jumping, and by that I mean bypasses would actually hold up to that better for a certain given amount of travel. I mean, yes, the best approach is to swap everything in the rear suspension (leafs, shocks, shock brackets, heck even leaf mounting locations) but that's beyond what 90% of people I know with Tacoma's will do. Different strokes... really. Depends on what you are going for and willing to do. If you don't like leaky 5100's and these aren't much more than 2.5's in the rear there will be a market for them. Are those people spending their money wisely? Maybe, maybe not. Again it depends on what they are doing and what they want.

guess its just my opinion... but i could see the pricetag for those triple bypass rear shocks being 2k+ .... you would have a SIIIICK setup with MUCH more travel for that much.

6112's are rebuildable for like $125 each corner if you send them in and you can get custom valving at the same time.

Just talked with them about this on the phone today. They are not end user rebuildable. You can send them in and have them rebuilt. I think the same goes for the 5160/5165 but that I can't say with certainty.

Rear suspension makes my brain hurt. Fucking expensive and it's a lot of fab work "too do it right", as they say. Not nearly as many good bolt on options and even the best won't pass the TW crowds approval.

Oh but Billies offer the ultimate in performance in 5100s, which makes them better than kings, Berry!

But seriously, the price just isn't competitive for OEM replacement IB coilovers.

They are smoking crack for the price point... I paid $1,700 for extended travel Kings up front with adjuster knobs on the resi... and no, I don't run them cranked at 2.5" of lift, they sit way too extended in the shock travel range. Kings/ICONS/Fox are optimum on 3rd gen around 1.5" of lift max... the lower the better, actually.

Checked out this thread to see if I made a bad choice with the rear 5160's at around $170 each, but I'm guessing these new rear bypasses will run like $400-$500 each... might as well get Kings for the rear at that point.
